    摘要: A composition that includes a non-gelled copolymer that contains residues having structural units (I): where n is an integer from 1 to 10,000; R1 is linear or branched C1 to C4 alkyl; R2 is selected from the group consisting of methyl, linear, cyclic or branched C2 to C20 alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkaryl and aralkyl, and R3 is a group resulting from a post polymerization reaction selected from transesterification, transamidification and hydrolysis with a compound selected from hydroxy functional compounds and amine functional compounds. The composition may contain co-reactive functional groups and may be a thermosetting composition. A substrate may be coated with the thermosetting composition singly or as part of a multi-layer composite coating that includes a base coat layer and a substantially pigment free top coat layer.

    摘要: Coating compositions formed from at least one hydroxyl functional non-vinyl material comprising at least one alcoholic hydroxyl group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent are provided by the present invention. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one carbamate functional material comprising at least one carbamate group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one carboxyl functional material comprising at least one carboxyl group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one amide functional material comprising at least one amide blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Other embodiments of the present invention are directed to substrates coated with the aforementioned cured compositions. Also provided are multi-component composite coatings which include a cured basecoat deposited from a pigmented coating composition and a cured topcoat deposited from a topcoating composition. The multi-component composite coatings of the invention provide highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings. Further embodiments of the present invention are directed to methods for improving scratch resistance of a substrate.

Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one carbamate functional material comprising at least one carbamate group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one carboxyl functional material comprising at least one carboxyl group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition, formed from components comprising at least one amide functional material comprising at least one amide blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Other embodiments of the present invention are directed to substrates coated with the aforementioned cured compositions. Also provided are multi-component composite coatings which include a cured basecoat deposited from a pigmented coating composition and a cured topcoat deposited from a topcoating composition. The multi-component composite coatings of the invention provide highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings.     摘要: Ethylenically unsaturated compounds are provided having Structure I and from which polymers with a plurality of groups of Structure II are derived. ##STR1## In Structures I and II, R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl, and R.sub.3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and when R.sub.3 is hydrogen and R.sub.2 has two carbon atoms R.sub.2 is methyl methylene. In Structure I, R.sub.2 and in Structure II R'.sub.2 is a divalent linking group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms. When R.sub.3 is hydrogen and R'.sub.2 has two carbon atoms, R'.sub.2 is methyl methylene. The compounds of Structure I may be used as monomers and reacted with other ethylenically unsaturated monomers via addition polymerization to arrive at the polymer with groups of Structure II.

    摘要: A film-forming composition is provided comprising: (i) an amide functional polymer, copolymer or oligomer selected from (a) acrylic polymers, (b) polyesters, (c) polyurethanes, (d) polyethers or (e) mixtures thereof; and (ii) an aminoplast crosslinking agent containing methylol and/or methylol ether groups. The acrylic polymers have a plurality of groups of at least one of the structures: ##STR1## wherein n is 0 or 1, R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl, R.sub.2 is a divalent linking group having about 1 to 30 carbon atoms when the group is of the first structure, or R.sub.2 is alkylene having about 2 to 13 carbon atoms when the group is of structure II, and R.sub.3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The (b), (c), and (d) polymers each have a plurality of terminal amide groups. The film-forming composition prior to curing has a theoretical hydroxyl value less than about 50 based on total resin solid weight of the film-forming composition, excluding any hydroxyl functionality associated with N-methylol groups. After curing, the film-forming composition exhibits a high level of acid etch resistance. The film forming composition can also be the clear film-forming composition with a base coat in a multi-component composite coating composition.

    摘要: Curable film-forming compositions comprising a film-forming resin and an organic sol of particles are provided. The sol of particles may be prepared by providing a suspension of particles in an aqueous medium; adding a first organic liquid compatible with the aqueous medium to form an admixture; reacting the particles with a first and a second modifying compound; adding a second organic liquid compatible with the liquid portion of the admixture wherein the second organic liquid is different from the first organic liquid; and maintaining the admixture at a temperature and pressure and for a time sufficient to substantially remove the water and the first organic liquid. The film-forming resin comprises an active hydrogen-functional polymer having low functionality; i.e., a functional group equivalent weight greater than 380 g/equivalent, and a crosslinking agent, yet surprisingly offers outstanding mar and scratch resistance.
