Abstract: Techniques for affixing a micro-object to a mounting structure at a desired relative orientation. A shaped portion of a work piece is caused to become embedded in two or more reference structures at stages during fabrication. The micro-object may have dimensions less than 200 microns, and possibly on the order of 15-25 microns. The mounting structure may be formed with a blind recess or a through aperture in which the micro-object is mounted.

Abstract: A distributed group activity network system and corresponding method over a computer network. It synchronizes and provides access by system users to shared data files of a group activity. The distributed group activity network system comprises one or more server computers and client computers that are connected to the server computer(s) by network connections. Each of the server computers comprises a network server and a memory system. The network server runs on the server computer and provides basic network services that are available at the server computer. The memory systems of the server computers store synchronization files and shared data files of the group activity. Each of the client computers comprises a memory system and a system module running on the client computer. The system modules of the client computers use the memory systems of the client computers and the available basic network services at the server computer(s) to synchronize and provide access to the shared data files by the system users by also using the memory systems of the client computers and the available basic network services at the server computer(s) to synchronize access to and access the synchronization files.

Abstract: The following invention pertains to the introduction of a gas (or fluid) around a SPM probe or nanotool™ to control chemical activity e.g. oxygen to promote oxidation, argon to inhibit oxidation or clean dry air (CDA) to inhibit moisture to control static charging due to the action of the probe or nanotools and to provide vacuum at and around the tip and substrate area. The invention can also produce electrical current for use with active electronic devices on, in or near the body of the device. In addition by use of a fluid like water, certain oils, and other liquids in conjunction with specific tip structure either electric discharge machining can be used at the tip area on the tip itself (in conjunction with a form structure on the work piece) or on a work piece beneath the tip to shape, polish and remove material at very small scales (10 microns to 1 nm or less).

Abstract: A data entry pad for the entry of two-dimensional graphical data to a communication system includes a resistive grid area to which a conductive layer may be selectively contacted so that graphical data can be generated by external resistance measuring electronic circuitry. The resistive grid area is formed by a pattern of resistive inking on a base and is separated from the conductive layer by a foamed thermoplastic insulating separator. High resistance bands surround the grid area so as to linearize its output values.
