    摘要: An efficient encoding/decoding apparatus of this invention comprises orthogonal transform element (10) for orthogonally transforming a digital signal obtained by allowing an analog signal to undergo analog/digital conversion, quantizer (11) for quantizing the digital signal which has undergone orthogonal transform processing, inverse quantizer (21) for inverse-quantizing a digital signal which is not yet caused to undergo inverse orthogonal transform processing, and inverse orthogonal transform element (20) for inverse-orthogonally transforming the orthogonally transformed digital signal, wherein rounding in even number direction or rounding in odd number direction is used in at least one of the orthogonal transform processing and the inverse orthogonal transform processing. Thus, accumulation of rounding errors at the time of, e.g., such a direct digital dubbing to repeatedly encode/decode digital signals such as video signals, etc. is prevented, thus making it possible to reduce picture deterioration of multi-generation characteristic.

    摘要: When macro blocks each of which has a variable length are input for one picture, null syncs each of which has a unit length are generated corresponding to the format of the video data to be handled. Corresponding to the length information, an overflow portion of a macro block is detected. The overflow portion is successively packed to macro blocks each of which is smaller than the unit length. Thus, each macro block is packed in the unit length. Since the length information of each null sync represents 0, the overflow portions are packed after the length information of each null sync. With null syncs, one format of video data can be matched with another format. In addition, with null syncs, overflow portions are packed. Thus, the record medium can be effectively used.

A substantial error is produced between accumulated value of intervals of reception time of the packets and accumulated value of time stamps of these packets. For each number of transport stream packets on which this substantial error provides one clock, a time equivalent to one clock is added to the subsequent time stamps of the transport stream packets or this time is subtracted therefrom to adjust time stamp, thereby correcting the deviation in time from reception time of the transport stream packets.
