摘要： A method for bonding resin members by laser welding in which melting of a resin member can be prevented on the contact surface with a base or a tool used for bonding. In the bonding method, a resin member (1) is mounted on a base (3) and a surface of the base (3) in contact with the resin member (1) is an optical mirror surface. A surface of the resin member (1) is coated with a light absorbing agent (4), a resin member (2) is placed thereon and then a laser light (10) is irradiated from the resin member (2) side in order to melt the resin on the bonding surface of the resin member (1) and the resin member (2), thereby bonding the resin members together. The laser light (11) penetrated through the bonding surface reaches the contact surface where the resin member (1) and the base (3) are in contact with each other, and since the laser light (11) penetrates the bonding surface without being scattered or absorbed, melting of the resin member can be prevented.

摘要： A laser welding system includes a free-spacing beam delivery laser head having a linear array of at least two laser diodes. Each of the diodes generates a laser beam of a predetermined wavelength and spectral width, the laser beams adapted to weld a workpiece having a first component and at least one other component to be welded to the first component, the first component being substantially transmissive to the wavelength, the other component being substantially absorptive of the wavelength. A lens is spaced a predetermined distance from each of the laser diodes, each of the lenses adapted to focus the respective laser beam into a focused laser beam segment, thereby forming a continuous line of laser energy from a substantially serial combination of each focused laser beam segment. The continuous line of laser energy is in a plane containing the workpiece, and is substantially orthogonal to the workpiece translation direction.

摘要： The invention is specially directed towards intermittent motion packaging machines where the packages are momentarily immobilized at a forming station for the time duration of the package sealing and cutting. The polymeric sheets or films are sealed and cut after being exposed to a laser beam in a controlled and optimized manner. The laser beam is shaped with appropriate optical elements to provide a desired intensity profile in the section of the films to be sealed or sealed and cut. With this method, a package can be sealed and cut simultaneously in one exposure step. An optical clamp holds the films together while they are being sealed by the laser. The optical clamp can reflect back to the films, partially or totally, the laser beam intensity that has not been previously absorbed. The optical clamp further allows to monitor the sealing and cutting process while the process is being performed.

According to the invention, in order to be joined, the endless materials are guided through two contrarotating rollers that press against each other. The first roller consists of a material that is transparent to laser beams and is tubular. The second roller is formed from a material that can be deformed easily at the surface, so that its surface can adapt to the shape of the first roller. Devices for producing a laser beam at the contact surface between the materials to be joined are arranged in the first roller. In this case, the beam is formed as a linear laser beam longitudinally with respect to the direction of movement of the materials so that during the passage, continuous heating of the material up to the melting point is achieved, without an excessively high laser output having to be provided. By means of the process and the apparatus, continuous joining is possible at high speed.

The apparatus comprises an energy directing means for concentrating the infrared energy onto the part, and a moveable carriage for moving the punch toward and away from the part. One embodiment of the energy concentrating means is a reflector, wherein the reflector includes a central aperture for admission of the part, and wherein the reflector comprises different curved sections for concentrating the energy over the surface of the part. In an alternate embodiment, the energy directing means comprises fiber optic cables for directing the infrared energy to the surface of the part.

In one aspect, the platen surface is arcuate so that the webs are maintained in intimate contact across the platen surface.
