Crumb rubber is extracted from scrape tires after being processed and then mixed in specified percentages with aggregate, cement and water. In the present disclosure sand, which is used in the formation of conventional blocks, is replaced with crumb rubber to produce a sand-free masonry block containing crumb rubber. The developed crumb rubber masonry blocks satisfied the ASTM non-load bearing requirements in addition to satisfying the water absorption test.

The present invention relates to a method of improving the incorporation of recycled bituminous products by using at least one surfactant as an alternative to the known rejuvenating oils, for the preparation of asphalt mixes containing recycled bituminous products. The use of such alternative surfactant(s) results in better mechanical properties of the asphalt mix, while using smaller amounts of fresh bitumen and greater amounts of recycled bituminous products.

The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a shaped article from a composite material comprising a solid filler and a thermoplastic binder, said process comprising the following subsequent steps: (a) feeding a solid filler and a thermoplastic binder to a kneading device; (b) mixing the solid filler and the thermoplastic binder in the kneading device, wherein the pressure exerted on the mixture of the solid filler and the thermoplastic binder is in the range of about 100 kPa to about 1500 kPa to obtain a composite material; (c) forming the composite material as obtained in step (b) into a shaped article; and (d)cooling the shaped article as obtained in step (c). The shaped article is preferably a slab which can very suitable be used in the decoration of floors, ceilings, wall panels, vanity tops, kitchen work surfaces, kitchen tops, bathrooms, internal and external cladding and other two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes by extrusion and or injection moulding techniques.

The invention relates to a method for producing a building material from a mixture of unscreened thermoplastic waste and mineral, preferably mineral aggregate. The crushed and/or screened mineral and plastic waste are washed, whereafter the mineral is heated to a predetermined temperature, and a given amount of plastic granules or plastic flakes made from the unscreened thermoplastic waste is mixed with the heated mineral aggregate. In the dosing and/or scattering stage, heated fine-grained filler mineral aggregate is further added to the resulting mass. The mass is dosed or scattered on a coating material, and the building marterial is pressed by compression moulding or flat-pressing and/or calendering to final thickness into slabs, blocks, bricks or boards.
