Abstract: A coated insulation product with a reduced fluorinated blowing agent concentration, while maintaining acceptable thermal properties (e.g., a 180-day R/in value of at least 4.8), is disclosed. The coated insulation product includes a foam product formed from a foamable composition comprising: a matrix composition; and a blowing agent composition comprising less than 3.5 wt. % of a fluorinated alkene, based on a total weight of the foamable composition. The foam product is coated with 3 g/m2 and 225 g/m2 of a barrier coating composition on at least one surface. The barrier coating composition includes: 40 wt. % to 99.9 wt. % of a barrier polymer having a minimum degree of crystallinity of 10%; and 0.01 wt. % to 60 wt. % of at least one additive.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) compositions and foaming agent masterbatches suitable for foaming, as well as foamed TPV compositions, methods of making the foregoing, and applications of various foamed TPV compositions. In particular, the present disclosure provides foaming agent masterbatches having unconventionally lower loading of foaming agent in carrier polymer. The carrier polymer may advantageously comprise or be a plastomer and/or propylene-based elastomer that is also suitable for inclusion in the TPV composition, and foaming the TPV composition may include the use of relatively greater amounts of foaming agent masterbatch. The use of greater amounts of foaming agent masterbatch with lower loading may allow for superior distribution of the foaming agent in the TPV composition during foaming, leading to greater uniformity of extent of foaming (e.g., as may be shown through greater uniformity of specific gravity in the foamed TPV composition).

Abstract: A method for making a low density foamed article includes placing a desired amount of thermoplastic polyurethane foam beads in a cavity of an injection mold and closing the mold; combining in an extruder connected to the mold a molten polymer selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers and thermoplastic ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers with both a physical or chemical blowing agent other than a supercritical fluid present in an amount up to about 15 wt % based on molten polymer weight and a supercritical fluid that is at least one of about 0.1 to about 5 weight percent of supercritical CO2 based on molten polymer weight or about 0.1 to about 4 weight percent of supercritical N2 based on molten polymer weight, to form a mixture and injecting the mixture into the mold and foaming the mixture to form the low density foamed article.

Abstract: Prepare a polymeric foam article having a thermoplastic polymer matrix defining multiple cells therein, wherein the polymeric foam article has the following characteristics: (a) the thermoplastic polymer matrix contains dispersed within it nano-sized nucleating additive particles that have at least two orthogonal dimensions that are less than 30 nanometers in length; (b) possesses at least one of the following two characteristics: (i) has an effective nucleation site density of at least 3×1014 sites per cubic centimeter of pre-foamed material; and (ii) has an average cell size of 300 nanometers or less; and (c) has a porosity percentage of more than 50 percent by rapidly expanding at a foaming temperature a foamable polymer composition containing the nucleating additive and a blowing agent containing at least one of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and argon.

Abstract: One or more fly ash materials or other optimized mineral fillers having a particle size distribution that may include cinders of selected sizes is mixed to form a filler. The filler is then mixed with an acid scavenger, an antioxidant, a compatibilizer and an impact modifier into a resin to form either a final composition or a masterbatch. A blowing agent may be added to both. Either the masterbatch or the final composition is mixed with a blend of a mineral oil and a styrenic block copolymer. Thereafter the masterbatch if prepared is mixed into or with a base resin to form the final composition. Fractional melt may be used in the masterbatch and in the final composition. The physical properties of the resulting products can be controlled by varying the ingredients. Some masterbatches are combined to produce products that have improved impact strength and/or that have enhanced toughness when compared to products made using naked or virgin resins. Alternately, the blowing agent may be added just before processing the composition into a final product.

Abstract: A masterbatch containing an organic base component and heat-expandable microspheres including a thermoplastic resin shell and a thermally vaporizable blowing agent encapsulated therein. The organic base component has a melting point not higher than the expansion-initiation temperature of the heat-expandable microspheres and a melt flow rate (MFR, g/10 mm) higher than 50 and not higher than 2200. A ratio of the heat-expandable microspheres ranges from 30 to 80 wt % of the total weight of the heat-expandable microspheres and the organic base component. Also disclosed is a molding composition, a foamed molded article manufactured by molding the molding composition and a weathers tripping.

The materials are hot melt processed and cured in the absence of an effective amount of catalysts and initiators. Both functional and nonfunctionalized silicone materials may be used. Exemplary cured materials include silicone pressure sensitive adhesives, silicone foams, and non-tacky silicon films.
