Abstract: Curable precursor compositions for adhesives (e.g., pressure sensitive adhesives) and related articles, assemblies, and methods. The provided compositions contain a mixture comprising 50 to 100 parts by weight of a first polymerizable component, 0 to 50 parts by weight of a second polymerizable component, a transition metal complex soluble in the mixture, and an effective amount of a polymerization initiator, thereby allowing for the formation of high molecular weight polymer with essentially no gel content that can be easily processed via established hot melt techniques (i.e., a hot melt processable adhesive), even in the absence of chain transfer agents or crosslinking agents.

Abstract: The present invention aims to provide a UV-curable adhesive composition having excellent printability, excellent UV reactivity in the presence of oxygen, and excellent adhesion to various substrates. The present invention also aims to provide an adhesive containing the UV-curable adhesive composition. Provided is a UV-curable adhesive composition containing: (A) a nitrogen-containing monomer; (B) a monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomer; (C) a crosslinking component; (D) a photopolymerization initiator; and (E) a thermoplastic resin having no reactivity with the nitrogen-containing monomer (A) nor with the monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomer (B), a cured product being obtained by applying the composition to a substrate at a thickness of 150 μm and irradiating the composition with UV light having a wavelength of 315 nm to 480 nm at an irradiance of 90 mW/cm2 and a dose of 1,350 mJ/cm2 in an atmospheric environment, the cured product having a reaction percentage of 80% or higher on both a surface facing the atmosphere and a surface facing the substrate.

Abstract: Systems for fabricating orthodontic appliances are provided. In some embodiments, a system includes a build platform configured to receive a polymerizable composition, the polymerizable composition including a first polymerizable component and a second polymerizable component, the polymerizable composition characterized by an initial ratio of the first polymerizable component to the second polymerizable component. The system can also include a light source configured to form a portion of an orthodontic appliance from the polymerizable composition by: forming a first region by exposing the polymerizable composition to radiation, where the first region includes a first ratio of the first polymerizable component to the second polymerizable component, the first ratio being different from the initial ratio; and forming a second region, where the second region includes a second ratio of the first polymerizable component to the second polymerizable component, the second ratio being different from the initial ratio and the first ratio.

Abstract: A surface covering is provided. The surface covering includes a laminated panel and an ultra-violet (UV) curable surface coating applied to the laminated panel. The ultra-violet (UV) curable surface coating includes a first coating, a second coating, abrasive resistant particles, and an antimicrobial additive. The second coating is a composition distinctive of the first coating, the first coating is cured at a lower energy than the second coating, the second coating is cured at a higher energy to cure both the first coating and the second coating. The abrasive resistant particles include silicon carbide (SiC) particles wherein at least 50% of the silicon carbide (SiC) particles have a particle size of less than 45 μu. The antimicrobial additive selected from a group consisting of N-butyl-1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one, alkyl dimethyl ammonium saccharinates, Zinc 2-pyridinethiol-1-oxide,10,10′-Oxybisphenoxarsine (OBPA), 4,5-Dichloro-2-octyl-4isothiazolin-3-one (DCOIT) and mixtures thereof.

Abstract: Acrylic copolymers incorporating high Tg, hydrophobic (meth)acrylate monomers that have high thermal stability, especially under hot, humid conditions are provided. The acrylic copolymer includes, as polymerized monomers, a combination of monomer a) and monomer b). Monomer a) includes at least one of tert-butyl cyclohexyl (meth)acrylate, 3,3,5-trimethyl cyclohexyl (meth)acrylate, or a mixture thereof. This monomer or monomer blend a) is present in the acrylic copolymer at from 0.2 to 20 weight percent and includes at least 80 weight % trans isomer. Monomer b) is (meth)acrylate and is present in the acrylic copolymer at from 80 to 99.8 weight percent of the acrylic copolymer. The acrylic copolymer has a Tg of from 116° C. to 145° C. and a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of at least 65,000 g/mole.
