摘要: Cells that are in the process division are vulnerable to damage by AC electric fields that have specific frequency and field strength characteristics. The selective disruption of rapidly dividing cells can therefore be accomplished by imposing an AC electric field in a target region for extended periods of time. Some of the cells that divide while the field is applied will be damaged, but the cells that do not divide will not be harmed. This selectively damages or disrupts rapidly dividing cells like parasites, but does not harm normal cells that are not dividing.

摘要: A tissue culture system for production of infectious hepatitis C virus is described. In particular, the invention provides recombinant monocistronic and bicistronic genomic constructs for production of virus, including constructs for production of wild-type HCV type 2a strain JFH1 and constructs for production of chimeric viruses comprising HCV proteins from strain JFH1 and a second HCV isolate. Constructs of the invention also include a reporter gene to facilitate measurement of RNA replication and viral infectivity in cultures. The cell culture system may also include various factors that improve viral replication or infectivity. In addition, a neutralization assay using HCV grown in cell culture is described.

摘要: Disclosed herein are isolated nucleic acids, compositions of isolated nucleic acids, and compositions of polypeptides that are useful for the generation, enhancement, or improvement of an immune response to a target antigen. Some embodiments of the compositions include hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg) protein and a heterologous protein antigen. In some embodiments, an isolated nucleic acid encoding hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg) protein and a heterologous protein antigen is disclosed. Also disclosed herein are methods of administering the composition or isolated nucleic acid to generate an immune response, where HBcAg acts as adjuvant to improve the immune response to the heterologous protein. In certain embodiments, the HBcAg is as a stork or heron hepatitis antigen.

摘要: Present invention provides a method for treating cancer which comprises co-administration of an angiogenic agent to enhance the vascular supply within tumors, particularly tumors capable of maintaining their viability under hypoxic conditions, and a anticancer therapy (e.g. chemotherapy and radiation therapy) to which the cancer is susceptible. Induction of angiogenesis increases the delivery of anticancer agents to the hypoxic tumor cells within the tumors, and as a result, improves the effectiveness of the anticancer therapy in eliminating or reducing cancers. The present invention also includes formulations comprising of lysine(L- and/or D-isomers as well as, or, their “activated” version either in isolation or in various combinations, as described, along with additive(s) and one or more chemotherapeutic agent(s) and/or radio-sensitizing agent(s).
