Abstract:
Methods of producing low viscosity glucomannan compositions by mixing a viscosity lowering compound with glucomannan under conditions suitable to form a low viscosity glucomannan composition are disclosed. The ability to modulate (increase or decrease) viscosity by combining glucomannan with compounds of differing molecular weights is described. Also, methods for lowering blood glucose and cholesterol in mammals by administering an effective therapeutic amount of maltodextrin-glucomannan complex are described. Additionally, methods for converting a food or beverage product from an initial low viscosity substance to a high viscosity end-product are also described herein.

Abstract:
A moisture activated composition is provided for ingestion by humans to aid in absorbing and binding undigested fat for rapid elimination from the human body. In a first preferred embodiment the composition comprises at least one fibrous agent, such as psyllium, in an amount of generally about 80 % by weight of the composition, an amount of glucosamine HCL generally about 10 % by weight of the composition, and amount of glucomannan, apple pectin, and stearic acid forming the other generally about 10 % by weight of the composition. In an alternative embodiment intended to achieve more rapid weight loss, the composition comprises a mixture of an amount of at least one fibrous agent, such as psyllium, at generally between 50 % by weight, an amount of glucosamine HCL at generally between 40 % by weight, an amount of glucomannan generally between 5 % and 6 % by weight, an amount of fruit or vegetable derived pectin such as apple pectin generally about 2 % by weight and an amount of stearic acid generally between 1 % and 2 % by weight of the composition. Finally, in an alternative embodiment, intended more for reducing cholesterol, the chemical composition preferably comprises at least one fibrous agent, such as psyllium, in an amount of generally about 85 % by weight of the composition, an amount of glucosamine HCL generally about 6 % by weight of the composition, and amounts of glucomannan, apple pectin, and stearic acid forming the other generally about 10 % by weight of the composition.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a frozen dessert based on ice cream comprising lactic bacteria, said ice cream being coated over all or part of its surface, and/or provided within, and/or in between, with an edible support, characterised in that the support is substantially devoid of lactic bacteria and that it comprises fermentable fibres specifically stimulating the growth in the intestinal tract of the lactic bacteria initially contained in the iced cream. The invention also concerns the combined use of lactic bacteria and prebiotic fibres for preparing a frozen composition wherein the lactic bacteria and the fibres are not substantially in contact, for treating and/or preventing gastrointestinal disorders, to strengthen the human immune system, or to increase the absorption of minerals.
Abstract:
A composition including a matrix of at least one of a carbohydrate ingredient and a protein ingredient including a crunch in the absence of oil. A composition including a matrix of at least one of a carbohydrate ingredient and a protein ingredient and an inclusion, wherein the composition includes an amount of one or more nutrients in the composition provided by the inclusion that is greater than an amount of the one or more nutrients in the inclusion processed without a matrix. A method including forming a dough including a matrix including at least one of a carbohydrate ingredient and a protein ingredient; and energy activating the dough; and forming a composition including a crunch.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to compositions for weight management comprising: a) a microbiome modifying component; b) a satiety modifying component; and c) a metabolic modifying component. The composition may also be used for the treatment of obesity, elevated cholesterol, diabetes, hypertension or heart disease.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to nutritional compositions for pediatric subjects, such as children's nutritional products and infant formulas, comprising a protein source, a fat source, a carbohydrate source, and a source of β-glucan.
Abstract:
A dietary supplement for regulating the appetite of an individual is described. The dietary supplement comprises at least one mechanical satiety regulator, and at least one chemical satiety inducer, and may additionally comprise at least one thermogen, and/or at least one side effect remover. The dietary supplement induces satiety based on a combination of occupying part of the volume of the stomach, inducing sending signals to the brain in respect of satiety. Furthermore the dietary supplement may maintain or increase metabolism and reduce side effects such as the amount of produced flatulence. The dietary supplement may comprise fibre, whey, plant parts from plants e.g. of the genus Capsicum and plant parts from a species e.g. of the genus Mentha.
Abstract:
The present invention refers to food compositions comprising flour, glucomannan and a mixture of soluble prebiotic fibres. Particularly the prebiotic fibres are partially gel-forming and partially totally soluble, resulting in optimal alimentary fibre contribution, reduced caloric content, good palatability and optimal digestion. The compositions of the invention can be processed, for example, in form of corn-flakes, biscuits, crackers, slices of toast-like bread and food bars.
