Embodiments described herein generally relate to apparatus having a canister with a sidewall, a top, and a bottom forming a canister volume. An inlet line and an outlet line is coupled to the top and is in fluid communication with the canister volume. A plate disposed within the canister volume forms a headspace volume below the plate. Each of the inlet line and the outlet line is in fluid communication with the headspace volume. The apparatus includes standoffs extending from a lower surface of the plate. The standoffs include a lower surface area substantially parallel with the plate.

A device and method for cleaning producer gas includes a filter bed housing and a microwave chamber. The filter bed housing comprises an inlet for carbon-based material and a spent carbon outlet. The microwave chamber comprises a permeable top and wave guides around the perimeter through which microwaves can be introduced into the device using magnetrons. The method comprises using the device by filling the filter bed housing with carbon-based material, introducing microwaves into the microwave chamber using the magnetrons and wave guides, passing the gas through carbon-based material in the filter bed chamber, the microwave chamber, the gas permeable top and the gas outlet.

A method for managing the charging of a space with solid particles, comprising: modelling an expected charging profile over a charging duration, during the charging, receiving, from at least one sensor, measured values of a parameter indicative of the height of a bed of solid particles charged into the space, determining filtered values of the parameter indicative of the height from the measured values received and from the modelled charging profile, and transmitting the filtered values to control the charging with solid particles.

A catalyst filling apparatus is for a bubble column slurry bed reactor for the FT synthesis reaction. The apparatus includes: a slurry preparation tank installed adjacent to the reactor and configured to prepare a slurry S from a FT synthesis reaction catalyst and a slurry preparation oil; an upper part communication line configured to direct the slurry from the reactor to the slurry preparation tank; a lower part communication line configured to direct the slurry in the slurry preparation tank to the reactor; and a pressure equalizing line configured to communicate the reactor with the slurry preparation tank. The upper part communication line is downwardly inclined from the reactor toward the slurry preparation tank, and the lower part communication line is upwardly inclined from the reactor toward the slurry preparation tank. An inert gas introduction device is provided on the slurry preparation tank.

A method for thermal decomposition of carbon-rich substances. Pyrolysis is used to transform substances into a synthetic gas. Bulk material including carbon enriched substances flows vertically in succession through an upper column, a moving bed reactor having an upper hollow chamber in the top thereof, a lower hollow chamber and a lower column, wherein the bulk material from the moving bed reactor is removed through the lower column. Pyrolysis is performed in the moving bed reactor and the synthetic gas is collected in the upper hollow chamber. The width and height of the upper and lower columns and the nature of the bulk material have an internal pressure loss which seals off the movable bed reactor and enables a continuous or batch-wise flow of bulk material. The pressure difference between the lower hollow chamber and the upper hollow chamber is at least 50 mbar. The pressure difference is stabilized by the bulk material inside the moving bed reactor.

Methods of preparing catalyst slurry for introduction into a downstream reactor or in-situ activation within the vessel utilizing the catalyst loading system are also disclosed.
