Abstract: A method of increasing a multiplication ratio of a charge pump, the multiplication ratio defining a relationship between an output voltage of the charge pump and an input voltage of the charge pump, comprising: analyzing a first efficiency of the charge pump when the multiplication ratio is at a first ratio, calculating a second efficiency of the charge pump when the multiplication ratio is a second ratio lesser than the first ratio, and based on the first efficiency and the second efficiency, determining at least one of a target output power and a target output voltage at which to change the multiplication ratio from the second ratio to the first ratio.

Abstract: A crosstalk canceller for reducing acoustic crosstalk at a time of audio playback is derived by forming a channel frequency response for a nominated playback geometry, and decomposing the channel frequency response to derive a decomposition element such as a singular value decomposition matrix. A value of the decomposition element, such as the smallest singular value, is then adjusted to reduce spectral coloration, and filter coefficients of a crosstalk cancellation filter are derived from the adjusted decomposition element.

Abstract: Wind noise reduction in microphone signals. A first microphone signal is obtained from a first omnidirectional microphone and, contemporaneously, a second microphone signal is obtained from a second omnidirectional microphone. The first and second microphone signals are mixed to produce an output signal. Mixing involves weighting the first and second microphone signals by respective first and second signal weights to produce respective first and second weighted microphone signals, and summing the first and second weighted microphone signals together to produce the output signal. The first and second signal weights are calculated to minimize the power of the output signal.

Abstract: A method may include receiving information indicative of an amplitude of an audio output signal, receiving information indicative of a predicted voltage of a power supply of a signal path having an audio input for receiving an audio input signal and an audio output for generating the audio output signal based on the audio input signal, predicting from the information indicative of the amplitude of the audio output signal and the information indicative of the predicted voltage of the power supply whether the audio output signal will exceed an available supply voltage generated by the power supply, and responsive to determining the audio output signal will exceed the available supply voltage generated by the power supply, attenuating the audio input signal or a derivative thereof to reduce the amplitude of the audio output signal such that the audio output signal does not exceed the available supply voltage of the power supply.

Abstract: A portable audio device may be configured to measure load characteristics of headphones. The device may measure direct current (DC) and/or alternating current (AC) characteristics of the load. These characteristics may be measured by an audio component, such as an audio codec chip or integrated circuit (IC) controller, and reported to software or firmware executing on a processor coupled to the audio component. The software or firmware may then take action based on the measured load characteristics. For example, the load characteristics may be compared to a database of headphones and their known load characteristics to determine a particular headphone model or type of headphone attached to the audio output. The processor may then apply an appropriate equalization curve.

Abstract: A method of transferring control data between a master device and a slave device over a path including at least one intermediate device, such that the path includes multiple path segments between successive pairs of devices. Data is transferred on each path segment in a plurality of frames of data, wherein the frames are synchronized between said path segments. The control data is transmitted in command slots of each frame, wherein a command slot comprises a set of control data bit slots, and wherein a control data bit slot is a time window associated with the transfer of a single control data bit over a single path segment between the devices on the path segment. The control data bit slots for each command slot are subdivided into: a first set of bit slots reserved for the transfer of control data in the direction from the master device to the slave device, and a second set of bit slots reserved for the transfer of control data either in the direction from the master device to the slave device or in the direction from the slave device to the master device. The time positions of the command slots on each path segment are offset from the positions of the command slots on each respective adjacent path segment by at least one control data bit slot.
