摘要: Medical instruments are provided having end effectors and end effector actuator apparatus which are rotatable relative to the end effectors. The instruments generally include a tube which is typically coupled to the end effectors via a clevis around which the end effectors pivot, a push rod extending through the tube and coupled to the end effectors, an actuator apparatus engaging the tube and the push rod and imparting reciprocal axial motion to the push rod relative to the tube, and end effectors. The actuator apparatus includes a sleeve, spring, handle, and lever arm. The sleeve is movable along the longitudinal axis of the tube against a biasing force of the spring, but is restrained from rotating about the tube. The sleeve has a locking element on its proximal end. The handle surrounds and rotatably engages the proximal end of the tube and has a locking element on its distal end which mates with the locking element of the sleeve and disengages therewith when the sleeve is advanced along the tube. Upon disengagement, the tube, push rod, and end effectors can be rotated. The lever arm pivotally engages the handle and is coupled to the push rod such that pivotal movement of the lever arm relative to the handle effects movement of the push rod relative to the tube and pivotal movement of the end effectors. To decouple rotation of the push rod from the lever arm, a generally spherical push rod engaging element is provided in a generally cylindrical bore of the lever arm.

摘要: A Maryland dissectors for insertion through a 5 mm trocar tube is disclosed and generally includes a hollow extended aluminum tube, a clevis, a pivot pin, a push rod, Maryland dissector end effector blades, and an actuator for causing reciprocal motion of the push rod. The clevis fixedly engages a first end of the aluminum tube, with the clevis having a hollow bore communicating with the aluminum tube and a pair of parallel, spaced apart, opposed arms extending away from the aluminum tube. The pivot pin extends transversely between the arms of the clevis and engages the clevis arms. The Maryland dissector end effector blades extend away from the aluminum tube and curve away from the longitudinal axis of the aluminum tube. The pivot pin extends through through-holes in the blades which are sized to permit pivotal movement of the blades around the pivot pin and to permit limited angular displacement of the blades relative to the pivot pin. When the Maryland dissector instrument is inserted through the 5 mm trocar tube, the blades angle relative to the pivot pin, and the aluminum tube resiliently flexes. When the blades pass out of the trocar tube the aluminum tube reassumes an unstressed position, and the blades can assume a position perpendicular to the pivot pin, with the blades extending past the projected periphery of the trocar tube.

摘要: A colored (viz., not black) vitreous enamel coating for an electrosurgical metal cutting blade provides heat-resistant, durable blade coloration and facilitates differentiation or discrimination between, or identification of, different blades. Different colors may be employed on different blade shapes in an array of blades, on blades used for different surgical procedures, or on blades used on different tissue types. The color may be applied to a portion of a blade to denote an edge or other feature. The color may preferentially absorb the primarily blue-hued light emitted by an electrosurgery plasma and preferentially reflect light of other hues; make the blade more visible against surrounding tissues; or discourage reflection of visible or other light (e.g., infrared radiation) in colors that might interfere with markers, sensors or other instruments designed to measure light emitted by or passing through nearby tissue such as by transillumination.

摘要: A vitreous enamel coating for an electrosurgical metal cutting blade, in which incident light striking the vitreous enamel coating is diffusely reflected or absorbed, and the vitreous enamel coating exhibits a 60° gloss value less than 100 gloss units as measured according to ASTM D523-14, Standard Test Method for Specular Gloss. The coating reduces glare from light sources such as a nearby plasma-mediated discharge, operating theater lights or lights provided on an electrosurgery apparatus. The coating may also lessen interference with markers, sensors or other instruments designed to measure light emitted by or passing through nearby tissue such as by transillumination.

摘要: Methods, apparatus and systems for tissue dissection and testing are disclosed herein. A method for tissue dissection and testing may comprise inserting a tissue dissecting wand (TD) through an incision in a patient's body. The TD may comprise a tip having a plurality of protrusions with lysing segments positioned between the protrusions to dissect and/or modify tissue. The TD may also comprise a sensor dock positioned on top of the TD that is configured to allow tissue and/or body fluid contact to a sensor. After separating tissue using the lysing segment(s) to access a target region, the sensor may be activated and moved around within the target region to assess tissues.

摘要: Devices and methods for performing subcutaneous surgery in a minimally invasive manner are provided. The methods include application of reduced air pressure in a recessed area of a handpiece placed over a section of skin and drawing the section of skin and subcutaneous tissue into the recessed area. In a subsequent step a tool is inserted through a tool conduit in the handpiece and through the skin into the subcutaneous tissue, enabling the performance of the desired surgery. Common surgical procedures include dissection and ablation. The devices and methods can be directed at the treatment of skin conditions like atrophic scars, wrinkles, or other cosmetic issues, at treatments like or promoting wound healing or preventing hyperhidrosis, or can be used for creating space for various implants.

摘要: A system for automatically identifying a blade that is connected to a hand piece based on data transmitted from the blade to the hand piece. The blade is provided with a first electronic coupler that communicates with a second electronic coupled positioned in the hand piece such that data related to the blade is transmitted to the hand piece and controllers/computers and in the case of reusable blades, updated data is transmitted to the blade to be saved in a memory coupled to the first electronic coupler. The coupling system can be either a hard wired or wireless coupling between the blade and the hand piece.
