Abstract: Novel compositions are prepared by impregnating activated alumina with sodium permanganate and a basic sodium compound. When used as a granular filter material in combination with a tobacco product as in a smoking article comprising a cigarette in combination with the filter materials, nitrogen oxides can be significantly reduced in the smoke obtained from the tobacco product after the filter material is stored for long periods of time in the presence of the volatile components of the tobacco product and/or moisture. Activated carbon may also be combined with the composition.

Abstract: The present invention describes the process of preparing ceramic materials for absorption of acidic gases, mainly carbon dioxide, in exhaust systems and/or present indoors. Ceramic materials are formed by a mixture of alkali carbonate with alkaline earth metal oxide/hydroxide associated with a binding component, but non-limiting. The alkali carbonate comprises sodium, potassium carbonate, or a mixture of both. The alkaline earth metal oxide/hydroxide may be formed from magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide as well as calcium oxide and/or calcium hydroxide.

The IILs can be used to prepare different types of silica, magnetite and calcium carbonate nanoparticles (NPs) as multifunctional oilfield chemicals for use in various oil spill collection, de-emulsification, viscosity improvement, asphaltene dispersant, and enhanced oil recovery applications.

Abstract: An ink for three dimensional printing a ceramic material includes metal oxide nanoparticles and a polymer resin, where a concentration of the metal oxide nanoparticles is at least about 50 wt % of a total mass of the ink. A method of forming a porous ceramic material includes obtaining an ink, where the ink comprises a mixture of metal oxide nanoparticles and a polymer, forming a body from the ink, curing the formed body, heating the formed body for removing the polymer and for forming a porous ceramic material from the metal oxide nanoparticles. The forming the body includes an additive manufacturing process with the ink.

Also provided are systems configured for carrying out the methods.
