Abstract:
A novel method has led to the identification of novel mixed ester-amidates of PMPA for retroviral or hepadnaviral therapy, including compounds of structure (5a) having substituent groups as defined herein. Compositions of these novel compounds in pharmaceutically acceptable excipients and their use in therapy and prophylaxis are provided.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing domainless service selection (DLSS) are described. According to one embodiment of the invention, there is a service selection network element used to provide access of computing devices to a set of one or more services provided by a set of one or more providers. In addition, a web portal allows subscribers to log in and/or select/switch between the services and providers. Responsive to such action by a given subscriber, the web portal causes a record of that subscriber to be altered to reflect the action and causes the service selection network element to attempt to connect the subscriber accordingly. According to certain embodiments of the invention, subscribers' domainless user identifiers are merged by the service selection network element with domain names (stored in a database) of services/providers to form network addresses (e.g., Internet addresses).
Abstract:
Phosphonate substituted compounds with HIV protease inhibitory properties having use as therapeutics and for other industrial purposes are disclosed. The compositions inhibit 5 HIV protease activity and/or are useful therapeutically for the treatment of AIDS and other antiviral infections, as well as in assays for the detection of HIV protease.
Abstract:
In a CDR (clock data recovery) deserializer, a clock divider receives a recovered clock signal (SCLK) and generates a divided clock signal (RPCLK). The frequency of the divided clock signal is lowered with each cycle of the divided clock signal being generated for each count of cycles of the recovered clock signal up to a predetermined ratio number. A serial-to-parallel shift register shifts in recovered serial data bits with each cycle of the recovered clock signal and outputs the predetermined ratio number of the shifted recovered serial data bits at a predetermined transition of every cycle of the divided clock signal. A SYNC (synchronization) detect logic asserts a VRS (diVider ReSet) signal coupled to the clock divider for controlling the clock divider to generate the predetermined transition for a cycle of the divided clock signal when the VRS signal is asserted. The SYNC detect logic includes a plurality of reloadable register portions for storing a plurality of synchronization bit patterns for a plurality of communications protocol. Each of a plurality of bit pattern comparators inputs an intermediate parallel data output (IPDO) from the shift register with each cycle of the recovered clock signal and compares for every cycle of the recovered clock signal the shifted recovered serial data bits to each of the synchronization bit patterns. A multiplexer selects one of the outputs of the bit pattern comparators as the VRS signal depending on the communications protocol of the recovered serial data bits.

Abstract:
Methods are provided for identifying anti-HIV therapeutic compounds substituted with carboxyl ester or phosphonate ester groups. Libraries of such compounds are screened optionally using the novel enzyme GS-7340 Ester Hydrolase. Compositions and methods relating to GS-7340 Ester Hydrolase also are provided.
Abstract:
Cysteine protease inhibitors which deactivate the protease by covalently bonding to the cysteine protease and releasing the enolate of a 1,3-dicarbonyl (or its enolic form). The cysteine protease inhibitors of the present invention accordingly comprise a first portion which targets a desired cysteine protease and positions the inhibitor near the thiolate anion portion of the active site of the protease, and a second portion which covalently bonds to the cysteine protease and irreversibly deactivates that protease by providing a carbonyl or carbonyl-equivalent which is attacked by the thiolate anion of the active site of the cysteine protease to sequentially cleave a .beta.-dicarbonyl enol ether leaving group.
Abstract:
Apparatus for manufacturing, on an automatic continuous basis, successive album pages of predetermined length and width each of which consists of a base sheet having a reinforcing tape bound thereto in overlapping relation with each edge thereof comprises a series of five stations: a tape preparing station, a sheet loading station, a glue station, a page assembly station and a cut-off station. In operation, one of two tapes has staple-like hinges applied thereto, both tapes are coated on one surface with glue, and both tapes advance to the assembling station to which successive sheets are fed lengthwise from the sheet loading station. In passing through the page assembling station, the tapes are folded and pressed into overlapping adhered relation with the side edges of the sheet to form a web consisting of a series of pages held together by intermediate pieces of the two tapes. The tapes, the successive sheets and the resulting web are drawn through the apparatus by a reciprocating carriage. During forward feeding movement of the carriage, the web is clamped to the carriage, and during each return stroke of the carriage, the tape is clamped to the cut-off station while the pieces of tape connecting the leading page to the remainder of the web are cut out to leave that page free for further disposal. The apparatus is adjustable to accommodate sheets of different lengths and widths.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for agnostic PPPoE switching is described. A method in a network element comprises converting Point to Point Protocol (PPP) protocol data units (PDUs) encapsulated according to different protocols into PPP PDUs with a uniform encapsulation, and transmitting the uniformly encapsulated PPP PDUs.
Abstract:
An airline may offer two procedures for redeeming frequent flier miles for tickets on a specified flight of that airline, with one procedure available to frequent flier program members that do not have transactional cards associated with the frequent flier program, and another redemption procedure available to frequent flier program members that have a transactional card associated with the frequent flier program. Cardmembers have improved award seat availability for frequent flier mile redemption, regardless of their status in the frequent flier program. Cardmembers are provided with last seat availability at a base redemption rate. Thus, cardmembers are not subject to limited award seat capacity controls and restrictions that airline frequent flier programs have in place, and cardmembers do not have to use higher redemption rates for last seat availability.
