摘要: An additive manufacturing system includes an energy source and a material delivery device. The energy source is configured to direct an energy beam toward a component to form a melt pool. The material delivery device is configured to feed a wire toward the melt pool to deposit material on the component. In some examples, the material delivery device is configured to discharge a current to the wire to disengage the wire from the melt pool. In some examples, the material delivery device is configured to measure an arc voltage between the wire and the component.

摘要: A method for laser welding a stack of metal foils to a metal substrate includes securing the stack of metal foils between a surface of the metal substrate and a removable clamp such that a side of the stack, formed by edges of the foils, is located on an interior portion of the surface, and the clamp is set back from the side of the stack. A first laser welding step interconnects the foils with an initial laser-weld joint by serially tracing a plurality of lateral paths along the foil edges with a laser beam. A second laser welding step connects the stack of interconnected foils to the substrate by tracing, with a laser beam, a path along the interface between the initial laser-weld joint and the substrate surface. This two-step laser welding process circumvents the difficulties of welding together materials with highly disparate thicknesses in a single laser-welding operation.

摘要: A method for welding at least two aluminum-containing components includes subdividing an output laser beam into multiple partial beams directed onto the at least two components, so that multiple laser spots are generated on a surface of the at least two components, and traversing a welding contour with the multiple laser spots on the surface of the components. Centers of at least three laser spots of the multiple laser spots are arranged in a ring formation. The output laser beam is generated by a multifiber, so that each laser spot of the multiple laser spots on the surface of the components has a core portion and a ring portion. The welding contour is traversed at least partially a second time after the welding contour has been traversed a first time.

摘要: A method for welding at least two aluminum-containing components is provided. The components have an aluminum content of at least 75% by weight. The method includes subdividing an output laser beam into multiple partial beams directed onto the components, so that multiple laser spots are generated on a surface of the components, and traversing a welding contour on the surface of the components with the multiple laser spots. Laser spot centers of at least three laser spots of the multiple laser spots are arranged in a ring formation. The output laser beam is generated by a multifiber, so that each laser spot of the multiple laser spots on the surface of the components has a core portion and a ring portion, with a mean power density in the core portion being higher than a mean power density in the ring portion.

摘要: A heater includes an aluminum nitride (AlN) substrate and a heating layer. The heating layer is made from a molybdenum material and is bonded to the AlN substrate via transient liquid phase bonding. The heater can also include a routing layer and a plurality of first conductive vias connecting the heating layer to the routing layer. The routing layer and the plurality of first conductive vias can be made from the molybdenum material and at least one of the routing layer and the plurality of first conductive vias are bonded to the AlN substrate via a transient liquid phase bond. A plurality of second conductive vias connecting the routing layer to a surface of the AlN substrate can be included and the plurality of second conductive vias are made of the molybdenum material and can be bonded to the AlN substrate via a transient liquid phase bond.

摘要: The present invention relates generally to welding gas compositions used as shielding gases in an electric arc welding process. More particularly, the invention is directed a shielding gas compositions used in gas metal or tungsten metal arc welding processes for welding aluminum or aluminum alloy containing work pieces. The compositions comprise from 200 to less than 400 ppm oxygen; from 200 to less than 400 ppm of a second gas selected from nitrous oxide, nitrogen, and combinations thereof; and the remainder being an inert gas preferably selected from argon, helium, and mixtures thereof.
