A hydrogenation catalyst containing cobalt, manganese and copper in the form of their oxides and alkali metal oxide and silicon dioxide. A weight ratio of cobalt to maganese is 25:1 to 1:1, and the copper content is 0.01 to 2% by weight based on a total weight of the catalyst. The catalyst is prepared by adding an excess of an aqueous solution of a hydroxide, bicarbonate or carbonate of an alkali metal to an aqueous solution of water-soluble cobalt salts, manganese-(II) salts and copper salts to form a precipitate. Thereafter an aqueous solution of an alkali metal silicate or SiO.sub.2 sol is added to the precipitate which is filtered off and washed with water to remove excess alkali metal hydroxide, bicarbonate or carbonate. The precipitate is then dried and calcined to form the catalyst.

Starting from hydrolysable salts of at least one transition metal and at least one metal giving a refractory oxide in solution in a non-aqueous solvent, simultaneous hydrolysis of the salts is produced by the addition of an amount of water which corresponds substantially to that necessary for the stoichiometry of the reactions. Drying of the coprecipitate formed is effected in an autoclave under hypercritical conditions. Hydrogenation or controlled oxidation catalysts of greater activity are thereby produced.

The process comprises contacting a petroleum hydrocarbon feedstock in a reactor system in the presence of hydrogen and under reforming conditions with a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal, mordenite, and an adsorbent refractory inorganic oxide, such as catalytically active alumina. The reactor system is composed of a maximum number of two reactors. The preferred feedstock contains relatively high concentrations of aromatics and/or naphthenes. The above-described catalyst is the sole catalyst in said reactor system. The process employs a weight hourly space velocity of at least 5. The process produces high yields of aromatics and gasolines having high octane numbers.

The present invention provides a process for the preparation of metal-doped zeolites comprising the steps of i) provision of a dry mixture of a) a zeolite, b) a compound of a catalytically active metal, ii) intimate grinding of the mixture, iii) heating of the mixture in a reactor, iv) cooling to room temperature and obtaining the metal-doped zeolite, wherein the internal pressure in the reactor during the heating is kept in a pressure range from 0 to −200 millibar. The invention further relates to the use of a metal-doped zeolite prepared by means of the process according to the invention for the conversion of NOx and N2O into harmless products.
