摘要: The method concerns fabricating heat-resistant heavy-duty components of a rbine, e.g. disk, wheel, etc. wherein two or more different kinds of alloys are junctioned, which comprises solidifying the one alloy powder by hot isostatic pressing or extrusion, junctioning and solidifying the solidified alloy with the other alloy powder by hot isostatic pressing or extrusion, and subjecting the alloys thus obtained to superplasticity forging thereby to secure the junction boundary. Ni-base superalloys having different complete solid solution temperatures of gamma prime phase are selected for use in the hub and rim of a turbine disk or the like, the one alloy which is higher in the temperature being disposed for the hub and the other alloy for the rim. The difference in the temperature between both alloys is at least 8.degree. C. Further solution heat treatment is performed at a temperature between the complete solid solution temperatures to adjust crystal grain size. Heat-resistant heavy-duty components of a turbine, e.g. disk, etc. are thus fabricated by superplasticity forging from Ni-base superalloys.

摘要: A joint for a superconducting cable joints superconducting cables with one another. The superconducting cable comprises a former, superconducting conductor, and insulating layer. The construction of the joint comprises the following steps: preparing a jointing ferrule for jointing the formers, sliding the ferrule over the end portions of the formers to be jointed, butting the end faces of the formers against each other in the jointing ferrule, compressing the jointing ferrule to joint the formers such that the compressed ferrule has a diameter equal to that of the former of the superconducting cable, butting the end faces of the superconducting conductors against each other at the outside of the compressed ferrule, and jointing the superconducting conductors with each other such that the jointed superconducting conductors have a diameter equal to that of the superconducting conductor of the superconducting cable. The foregoing steps can decrease the size of the joint.

摘要: A semiconductor laser device, including an LD array member having a monolithic linear-array configuration and provided with a plurality of emitters, respectively emitting a laser beam, in a parallel arrangement in a single semiconductor crystal. The LD array member includes a main area in which the emitters are disposed in the parallel arrangement, a first inactive area formed outside of the main area, and a second inactive area formed between the emitters disposed side-by-side in the main area. The first inactive area has a dimension larger than the second inactive area, as seen in a direction transverse to the plurality of emitters. The LD array member includes a first facet, in which emitting ends of the emitters are disposed, and a second facet opposite to the first facet; at least one of the first facet and the second facet being covered by a coating material. The LD array member also includes a pair of lateral faces respectively intersecting each of the first and second facets; at least one of the lateral faces being covered at least partially by a coating material.

摘要: A cable and cable system is provided having a conductor and an insulation layer on an outer circumference of a conductor. The insulation layer is impregnated with a medium-viscosity insulating oil that has a viscosity of 10 centistokes (cst) to less than 500 cst at 60° C. The insulation layer includes an insulating tape that may be one or a combination of composite tape having a polyolefin resin film laminated with a kraft paper on both its sides and an insulating tape including a polyolefin resin film. The cable includes a metal sheath provided on an outer circumference of the insulation layer, and a reinforcing layer formed on an outer circumference of the metal sheath. The reinforcing layer reinforces the metal sheath by absorbing hoop stress exerted on the metal sheath. The cable system includes a submarine-portion cable and a land-portion cable, an oil stop joint box, and an oil feeding tank. The oil stop joint box connects the submarine-portion cable to the land-portion cable, and the oil feeding tank is connected to the land-portion cable which feeds the medium-viscosity insulating oil to the land-portion cable.

摘要: A method and apparatus in which separate steps are used between feeding source gases and growing films in a process of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for compound semiconductor films. In one embodiment, a CVD reactor chamber has a piston which can change the volume of the chamber to control the pressure of the source gases therein. After source gases are fed to the chamber having a substrate under the condition that no CVD takes place due to an insufficient vapor pressure, the chamber is kept closed for a few seconds, and then pressurized by the piston to start CVD. A typical result indicates that a Hg.sub.1-x Cd.sub.x Te (where x=0.2) film on a 3-inch CdTe wafer has only 1% (or .DELTA.x=0.002) inhomogeneity in composition.
