Abstract: Disclosed is a gradient proportioning valve for liquid chromatography that includes a plurality of inlet ports configured to receive a plurality of fluids, a manifold connected to each of the plurality of inlet ports configured to mix the plurality of fluids in a controlled manner to provide a fluid composition, the manifold including a plurality of fluid conduits internal to the manifold, each of the plurality of fluid conduits receiving fluid through a respective one of the plurality of inlet ports, each of the plurality of fluid conduits operatively communicable to a respective actuation mechanism configured to open and close each of the plurality of fluid conduits in a controlled manner, a common outlet port configured to receive the fluid composition, and a passive fluidic dampening system configured to dampen unwanted fluidic pressure pulses in the manifold where at least one of the plurality of fluid conduits is compliant.

Abstract: Described is an active check valve that uses electro-magnetic actuation for operation. The valve includes a plunger assembly having a magnet in a sealed internal volume. The plunger assembly further includes a plunger tip that extends from either a plunger assembly housing or a sealing member. Although the plunger assembly is disposed in the solvent flow, the magnet is not exposed to the solvent. When the valve is actuated, the plunger tip moves the sealing member to open or close the valve. Optionally, an arming force may be applied to the sealing member in advance of opening or closing to reduce the subsequent additional force necessary to move the sealing member during opening or closing, thereby improving the accuracy of the solvent composition in liquid chromatography system applications.

Abstract: Disclosed is a device for a solid phase extraction comprising two or more of the sorbents to remove phospholipids and salts from a sample, to thereby eliminate matrix effects during mass spectrometry analysis. In particular, the sorbents includes at least one sorbent which is water-wettable and contains at least one hydrophobic component and at least one hydrophilic component and at least one of sorbent having a specific affinity for a matrix interference like phospholipids. Further disclosed is a method using the device of the present invention.

Abstract: A heat flow rate measurement method for use with a differential scanning calorimeter sensor is provided. The method includes calculating a heat exchange between a plurality of sample containers and a reference container placed on a plurality of sample calorimeter units and a reference calorimeter unit, respectively, and determining a heat flow rate of samples within the sample containers using the calculated heat exchange between the plurality of sample containers and the reference container. Abstract: Described is a method for determining a dwell volume of a liquid chromatography system and a liquid chromatography system that can determined the system dwell volume. The method includes mixing a flow of a first solvent with a flow of a second solvent to form a solvent mixture. The flows of the first and second solvents are decreased and increased, respectively, to generate a gradient composition. A system pressure of the liquid chromatography system is measured to determine a pressure trace defined as the measured system pressure as a function of time. The dwell volume of the system is determined from a time delay determined between the gradient composition at the mixing location and the pressure trace. The method can be performed with a liquid chromatography system having a chromatographic column or a flow restrictor used in place of the chromatographic column.
