Abstract: An emissions treatment system for an exhaust stream of an internal combustion engine including hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides is provided. The disclosed system can include an exhaust conduit in fluid communication with the internal combustion engine via an exhaust manifold; a first three-way conversion catalyst (TWC-1) located downstream of the internal combustion engine in the exhaust conduit; an SCR-HCT catalyst comprising a selective catalytic reduction catalyst and a hydrocarbon trap downstream of the TWC-1 in the exhaust conduit; and a third catalyst downstream of the SCR-HCT combination in the exhaust conduit, the third catalyst comprising a platinum group metal (PGM) e.g., in an amount effective to oxidize hydrocarbons. Methods of making and using such systems and components thereof are also provided.

Abstract: Provided is a composite of mixed metal oxides comprising by weight of the composite: alumina in an amount in the range of 1 to 50%; ceria in an amount in the range of 1 to 50% zirconia in an amount in the range of 10 to 70%; and one or more oxides of Group II elements in an amount in the range of 1 to 10%; optionally, one or more oxides Group III elements in an amount in the range of 0 to 20% is present. The mixed metal oxides may be effective integrated supports for precious metals used in emissions catalysts where a single component is an integration of alumina, ceria, zirconia, Group III metal oxides (dopants, e.g., La2O3, Y2O3, Nd2O3, Pr6O11), Group II metal oxides (additives, e.g., BaO, SrO, CaO, MgO), and optionally other transition metal oxides.

Abstract: This disclosure is directed to catalyst compositions, catalytic articles for purifying exhaust gas emissions and methods of making and using the same. In particular, the disclosure relates to a catalytic article including a catalytic material on a substrate, wherein the catalytic material has a first layer and a second layer. The first layer provides effective lean NOx trap functionality and the second layer provides effective three-way conversion of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Abstract: The present invention relates to a zoned catalytic article, particularly useful for TWC, which comprises: a) a catalyst composition coat comprising a first zone of the catalyst composition coat, comprising a platinum group metal component consisting of a platinum component supported on a support; and a second zone of the catalyst composition coat, comprising a rhodium component and at least one of a platinum component and a palladium component supported individually or together on a support, and b) a substrate; wherein the first zone and the second zone of the catalyst composition coat are carried on a single piece of substrate or carried on respective pieces of substrate useful for treatment of exhaust gases and an exhaust treatment system comprising the zoned catalytic article. The present invention also relates to an exhaust treatment system comprising the zoned catalytic article.

Abstract: A three-way catalyst for reduced palladium loading is provided. The catalyst includes an inert substrate and a palladium catalyst material coating the substrate. The palladium catalyst material includes a support material formed from one of 10% CeO2/Al2O3, 20% CeO2—Al2O3 (20CeAlOy), 30% CeO2—Al2O3 (30CeAlOy), Al2O3, and MOx-Al2O3, wherein M is one of copper, iron, manganese, titanium, zirconium, magnesium, strontium, and barium. The palladium catalyst material includes a layer of CeO2 material disposed upon the support material, wherein the layer of CeO2 material is dispersed on a surface of the support material. The palladium catalyst material includes an active component including a layer of praseodymium oxide particles dispersed across the surface of the layer of CeO2 material and a layer of palladium particles disposed upon and dispersed across the surface of the layer of CeO2 material at locations each corresponding to a respective location of each of the praseodymium particles.

Abstract: An oxidation catalyst composite, methods, and systems for the treatment of exhaust gas emissions from a diesel engine are described. More particularly, described is an oxidation catalyst composite including a first oxidation component comprising a first refractory metal oxide support, palladium (Pd) and platinum (Pt); a NOx storage component comprising one or more of alumina, silica, titania, ceria, or manganese; and a second oxidation component comprising a second refractory metal oxide, a zeolite, and Pt. The oxidation catalyst composite is sulfur tolerant, adsorbs NOx and thermally releases the stored NOx at temperature less than 350° C.
