Hydraulic oil pressure of the frictionally engaging device for normal engagement is controlled in response to a rise or fall in hydraulic oil pressure of the frictionally engaging device for the coasting mode. Thus, combined use of the frictionally engaging device for the coasting mode makes it possible to improve the durability of the frictionally engaging device for normal engagement and decrease the occurrence of shocks generated during shifting operation.
