Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are presented for a single surgical instrument configured to grasp, seal, and/or cut tissue through application of therapeutic energy, and also detect nerves through application of non-therapeutic electrical energy. A medical device may include two jaws at an end effector, used to apply therapeutic energy and to perform surgical procedures. The therapeutic energy may be in the form of ultrasonic vibrations or higher voltage electrosurgical energy. One of the jaws may be configured to cut tissue through application of the blade. In addition, one or both of the two jaws may be configured to apply nontherapeutic energy for nerve stimulation probing. The application of therapeutic energy may be disabled while the nontherapeutic nerve stimulation energy is applied, and vice versa. The nontherapeutic nerve stimulation energy may be applied to the use of one or more probes positioned near one or both of the jaws.

Abstract: A closed-loop spinal cord electrical stimulation system includes a spinal epidural electrical stimulation electrode, a low limb electrical stimulation electrode, a closed-loop electrical stimulator and a controller. The spinal epidural electrical stimulation electrode, the low limb electrical stimulation electrode and the controller are electrically connected to the closed-loop electrical stimulator respectively. The spinal epidural electrical stimulation electrode is used for applying a first electrical stimulation to the spinal epidural site, and the low limb electrical stimulation electrode is used for applying a second electrical stimulation to a low limb. The voltage of the first electric stimulation is 400-600 mV, the voltage of the second electric stimulation is 1 V-1.5 V, and the stimulation frequency of the both is 10-20 Hz. The stimulation system can send electrophysiological signals similar to sensorimotor neural circuitry to the subject with spinal cord injury, and can activate and remodel the neural circuit.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing closed loop control of stimulation provided by an implantable stimulator device are disclosed herein. The disclosed methods and systems use a neural feature prediction model to predict a neural feature, which is used as a feedback control variable for adjusting stimulation. The predicted neural feature is determined based on one or more stimulation artifact features. The disclosed methods and systems can be used to provide closed loop feedback in situations, such as sub-perception therapy, when neural features cannot be readily directly measured.

Abstract: Neural interfaces with the peripheral nervous system have been developed to provide a direct communication pathway between peripheral nerves and prosthetic limbs. Described herein is a method of making a microchannel integrated neural interface device comprising a plurality of hollow cylindrical electrodes in a PDMS scaffold, which can control the reinnervated muscles and interpret neurological signals. The acquired bioelectrical signals can be used for the interpretation of mind and create a neural map.
