摘要: A diesel particulate filter assembly having a housing and a filter structure disposed within the housing for trapping particulate material in received exhaust gas as such received exhaust gas passes through the housing along a longitudinal axis of the housing. The filter structure has walls of particulate collecting, gas passing material. The walls pass portions of the exhaust gas while trapping particulate material in such passing exhaust gas. The walls are disposed the oblique to the direction of the received exhaust gas.

摘要: A puddle 21 composed mainly of a ceramic and/or a metal is molded to obtain a honeycomb molded material 22; the honeycomb molded material 22 is dried, or dried and fired to obtain a honeycomb carrier; there are formed, at two portions of each partition wall 3 of the honeycomb carrier, each present at a given site extending, along the axial direction of the honeycomb carrier, from the two end faces 8 and 9 of the carrier at which each cell 1 formed by each partition wall 3 is open, reinforced portions 11 having an erosion resistance at least larger than that of other partition wall portion, whereby a honeycomb intermediate structure 31 is produced; after or before loading of catalyst thereon, the honeycomb intermediate structure 31 is cut along the diameter direction; then, a catalyst is loaded as necessary to obtain a honeycomb catalyst. Thus, burden to operator is alleviated and there is efficiently obtained a honeycomb catalyst which is small in damage during production and deformation during firing and which is very small in pressure loss.

摘要: A catalytic trap (10, 110) effective for conversion of NOx in an exhaust gas stream is inert to high-temperature reaction with basic oxygenated compounds of lithium, sodium or potassium. The catalytic trap may be substantially free of silica components and may include a catalytic trap material (20, 120) which contains a refractory metal oxide support, e.g., alumina, having dispersed thereon a catalytic component, such as a platinum group metal catalytic component, and a NOx sorbent comprised of one or more of the basic oxygenated compounds. The catalytic trap material is coated onto a suitable carrier member (12, 112), such as one made from stainless steel, titanium, alumina, titania, zirconia or silica-leached cordierite. A method of treating a NOx-containing gas stream involves maintaining the gas stream in alternating periods of (1) lean and (2) rich or stoichiometric conditions and contacting the gas stream with the catalytic trap under conditions in which NOx is adsorbed during periods of lean operation and released and reduced to nitrogen during periods of rich operation.

摘要: A converter for purifying exhaust gases from lean-burn engines, in particular for controlling the amount of NOx and soot from a diesel engine in transient operation such as a vehicle. The converter contains a catalyst bed with a catalyst effective for NOx reduction with a chemical reductant when the catalyst bed is with a certain temperature window and when the ratio between the molar amount of chemical reductant and NOx is above a certain minimum ratio. The catalyst bed is heated or cooled to a temperature within the temperature window and a switching valve is provided for reverse flowing the exhaust gases through the converter to maintain the catalyst bed at a temperature within the temperature window for a longer time than is possible with a conventional non-flow-reversing converter. A reductant delivery system adds chemical reductant to the exhaust gases in an appropriate amount so that the ratio between the molar amount of chemical reductant and NOx is above the certain minimum ratio when the exhaust gases pass over the catalyst bed. A soot trap may be provided in series with the catalyst bed in the converter, said reverse flowing of the exhaust gases through converter heating and continuously maintaining the soot trap at or above the ignition temperature of the soot.
