The present invention is related to a yarn construction comprising fibres A and at least one indicator fibre, wherein the indicator fibre comprises fibre B and an elemental metal at least partially coating the surface of the fibre B, wherein fibre A and fibre B are dissimilar ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibres. The yarn constructions may be available in different forms, amongst others in ropes, straps, slings, fabrics and synthetic chains.
Abstract:
A threadlike metallic or metallized reinforcer, for example a thread, film, tape or cord made of carbon steel, at the periphery of which is positioned a layer of metal referred to as “surface metal” chosen from copper, nickel and copper/nickel alloys, is characterized in that this surface metal layer is itself coated, at least in part, with at least one layer of graphene; preferably, there is grafted, to this graphene, at least one functional group which can crosslink to a polymer matrix. This reinforcer of the invention is effectively protected from corrosion by virtue of the graphene present at the surface; advantageously, it can be adhesively bonded directly, without adhesion primer or addition of metal salt, to an unsaturated rubber matrix, such as natural rubber, by virtue of the possible functionalization of this graphene.

The elongation at break of the steel cord is no less than 5%. The strand having a strand twist angle. The steel cord having a cord twist angle. When the sum of the strand twist angle and the cord twist angle is between 20 and 29 degree, the structural elongation of the steel cord is no less than 2.0%. When the sum of the strand twist angle and the cord twist angle is between 30 and 38 degree, the structural elongation of the steel cord is no less than 2.5%. When the sum of the strand twist angle and the cord twist angle is between 39 and 48 degree, the structural elongation of the steel cord is no less than 3.0%.
Abstract:
A metal cord has cylindrical layers formed of an internal layer, an intermediate layer, and an external layer. The in internal layer includes M threads. The intermediate layer includes N threads wound in a helix around the internal layer. The external layer includes P threads wound in a helix around the intermediate layer. An inter-thread distance, D2, between the threads of the intermediate layer is greater than or equal to 25 μm. An inter-thread distance, D3, between the threads of the external layer is greater than or equal to 25 μm.
Abstract:
Hybrid rope (20) comprising a core element (22) containing high modulus fibers surrounded by at least one outer layer (24) containing wirelike metallic members (26). The core element (22) is coated (23) with a thermoplastic polyurethane or a copolyester elastomer, preferably the copolyester elastomer containing soft blocks in the range of 10 to 70 wt %. The coated material (23) on the inner core element (22) is inhibited to be pressed out in-between the wirelike members (26) of the hybrid rope (20) and the hybrid rope (20) has decreased elongation and diameter reduction after being in use.
Abstract:
A steel cord (20) comprises a plurality of steel filaments (22, 24) arranged in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the steel cord (20) without twisting. The steel cord (20) further comprises a wrapping filament (26) twisted around the steel cord (20). Each of said steel filaments (22, 24) is a flat wire having flat surfaces. The steel filament (24) near the center of the steel cord (20) has a bigger width than the steel filaments (22) further away from the center of the steel cord (20) such that the cross-section of said steel cord (20) approximates an oval shape with the bending stiffness around the shorter axis of the oval shape being greater than the bending stiffness around the longer axis. In a tire, the steel cord being used as a reinforcement, the longer axis being arranged perpendicular to the radial direction of the tire.
Abstract:
Method for manufacturing a metal cord with three concentric layers including a first layer of diameter dc made up of M wire(s) of diameter d1, around which layer are wound together as a helix at a pitch p2, as a second layer, N wires of diameter d2, around which are wound as a helix at pitch p3, as a third layer, P wires of diameter d3. The N wires of the second layer are assembled around the layer to form, at a point called “assembling point”, an intermediate cord called “core strand” of M+N construction; upstream and/or downstream of the assembling point, the layer and/or the core strand is sheathed with a rubber or rubber composition by passing through at least one extrusion head; then the P wires of the third layer are assembled around the core strand to form a cord of M+N+P construction thus rubberized from the inside.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a tire-reinforcing steel cord for a radial tire. The tire-reinforcing steel cord has a double layer structure including a first-layer core and a second-layer core provided on the surface of the first-layer core. The first-layer core has an elliptical or rectangular cross section. The tire-reinforcing steel cord can improve processability, fatigue characteristics, and rolling resistance performance of a tire, resulting in improved fuel efficiency. A radial tire using the tire-reinforcing steel cord is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A steel filament adapted for the reinforcement of elastomer or for thermoplastic products has a carbon content ranging up to 0.20 per cent by weight. The steel filament is provided with a coating promoting the adhesion with elastomer or thermoplastic products. The steel filament is drawn until a final diameter of less than 0.60 mm and a final tensile strength of more than 1200 MPa. Intermediate heat treatments are avoided so that the carbon footprint of the steel filament is substantially reduced.
