摘要: A method of forming a coated medical device is described in which a coating including a therapeutic agent dispersed in a polymer or oligomer matrix is applied to an outer surface of the medical device. The coating is then post-processed to selectively remove a substantial portion of the polymer or oligomer matrix from the coating. The post-processed coating is then sterilized.

摘要: An antimicrobial coating system and method are described. In some embodiments, a system may include a composition. The composition may include one or more bridged polycyclic compounds. At least one of the bridged polycyclic compounds may include at least two cyclic groups, and at least two of the cyclic groups may include quaternary ammonium moieties. In some embodiments, a method may include applying an antimicrobial coating to an oral surface, a surface of a construction substrate, a surface of a marine substrate, a surface of a medical device, or a surface of a personal care device. The protective coating may be antimicrobial. A protective coating may include antimicrobial bridged polycyclic compounds. Bridged polycyclic compounds may include quaternary ammonium compounds. Bridged polycyclic compounds based coating systems may impart self-cleaning properties to a surface (e.g., a tooth surface).

摘要: A coated balloon device for stabilizing a section of a blood vessel in a living subject is disclosed. The coating layer of the coated balloon comprises a phenolic compound having a plurality of phenolic groups connected to form a hydrophobic core with peripheral phenolic hydroxyl groups. The coating layer of the coated balloon may contain a hydrophilic polymer to facilitate the release of the phenolic compound. The balloon in general is made of a compliant polymer for atraumatic contact with the blood vessel. In some embodiments, the coating of the coated balloon device further comprises a hydrophilic undercoat layer between the balloon and the coating layer. In some embodiments, the coated balloon device further comprises a sacrificial top coating that dissolves upon delivery into the section of the blood vessel and comprises a hydrophilic composition including sugar, sugar derivatives, or a combination thereof.

摘要: Orthopedic and dental implants coated with an antibacterial coating and methods of making and using, are described herein. The implant can be coated with a hydrophobic, polycationic antibacterial polymer. The polymer can be covalently or non-covalently associated with the surface; however, in particular embodiments, the polymer is non-covalently associated with the surface. As shown in the examples below, clinical observations, digital radiography, and a battery of well-accepted ex vivo analytical methods show that the presence of a hydrophobic polycationic polymer coating, such as N,N-dodecyl,methyl-PEI coating on the surface of a metal implant, was effective in eliminating the clinical signs of infection in vivo in a large animal infection model. Moreover, the coated plates supported bone healing, and in fact decreased healing times, even in the presence of significant bacterial contamination compared to a control.

摘要: A coated medical device (10) including a structure (12) adapted for introduction into a passage or vessel of a patient. The structure is formed of preferably a non-porous base material (14) having a bioactive material layer (18) disposed thereon. The medical device is preferably an implantable stent or balloon (26) of which the bioactive material layer is deposited thereon. The stent can be positioned around the balloon and another layer of the bioactive material posited over the entire structure and extending beyond the ends of the positioned stent. The ends of the balloon extend beyond the ends of the stent and include the bioactive material thereon for delivering the bioactive material to the cells of a vessel wall coming in contact therewith. The balloon further includes a layer of hydrophilic material (58) positioned between the base and bioactive material layers of the balloon.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for coating the balloon of a balloon catheter, wherein the surface of the balloon is at least partially wetted with a first solution of an active ingredient, the part of the surface of the balloon wetted with the first solution of the active ingredient is wetted with a liquid containing water and/or at least one alcohol, and the part of the surface of the balloon wetted with the first solution and the liquid containing water and/or at least one alcohol is wetted with an additional solution that contains a polysaccharide. In this way, the balloon is provided with an active ingredient layer, which during the balloon dilatation is effectively applied to the vessel inner wall due to the embrittlement of the surface and cases a slowed, long lasting release of the active ingredient.
