Abstract:
Antiviral protease inhibitors, including peptidyl aldehydes, peptidyl α-ketoamides, peptidyl bisulfite salts, and peptidyl heterocycles, are disclosed, along with related antiviral compounds, and methods of using the same to treat or prevent viral infection and disease. The compounds possess broad-spectrum activity against viruses that belong to the picornavirus-like supercluster, which include important human and animal pathogens including noroviruses, enteroviruses, poliovirus, foot-and-mouth disease virus, hepatitis A virus, human rhinovirus (cause of common cold), human coronavirus (another cause of common cold), transmissible gastroenteritis virus, murine hepatitis virus, feline infectious peritonitis virus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus.
Abstract:
A portable optical sensor for measuring surface strain in an object, such as pre-stressed concrete articles, is provided. The sensor is a modular device comprising at least first and second modules, each of which includes a laser and image sensor. When placed adjacent to the object, the laser of each module illuminates respective, spaced-apart areas of the object's surface and each module's image sensor captures at least a portion of the light reflected from the illuminated area and generates a speckle image of the area. Speckle images of the areas taken at various times and/or under various object stress conditions are compared to arrive at a surface strain measurement for the object.
Abstract:
Supramolecular assemblies for delivering active agents to cancerous or precancerous tissues in a subject are provided. These supramolecular assemblies are also useful in assays for detecting and imaging of cancerous and precancerous cells. The assemblies are protease-sensitive and comprise a peptide linkage containing a protease consensus sequence. The assemblies can be selectively targeted to cancerous tissue where the protease enzymes degrade the peptide linkage thereby releasing the active agents which were physically or mechanically contained in or retained by the supramolecular assembly.
Abstract:
This invention relates to methods and compositions directed towards the diagnosis and treatment of Hepatitis C virus infection and the screening of potential therapeutic compounds using novel small molecules based on imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acids scaffolds.
Abstract:
Catalyst materials for olefin metathesis reactions. The catalyst materials comprise a ruthenium phosphinimine complex. The ruthenium phosphinimine may be synthesized without bound N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) or phosphine ligands, thereby providing significant advantageous in conversion, selectivity, and stability compared to existing ruthenium-based catalysts.
Abstract:
An agricultural system can include a product application system including one or more nozzle assemblies. A sensing system can be configured to capture data indicative of a condition of a spray operation. An input device can be configured to receive a first command to alter an application parameter for an agricultural product to be exhausted from a nozzle assembly. A computing system can be communicatively coupled to the product application system, the sensing system, and the input device. The computing system can be configured to receive the first command to alter the parameter, alter a first component based on the first command, determine whether the condition of the spray operation deviates from a defined condition range in response to altering the first component, and generate a second command to alter a second component based on the first command.
Abstract:
Apparatus and processes for high-yield production of syngas components via combustion of a carbon-containing material and an oxygen-containing material are provided. Syngas components are generated in an exothermic, combustion reaction with only minor quantities of carbon dioxide, water, and elemental carbon produced.
Abstract:
Methods of preventing or decreasing PEDv and/or Salmonella bacteria in animal feed, feed ingredients, and pet food are provided. The methods utilize generally safe chemical mitigants, such as medium chain fatty acids, essential oils, and sodium bisulfate. The chemical mitigants are introduced to the feed or feed ingredients at inclusion rates selected so as to prevent or decrease PEDv and/or Salmonella bacteria in the animal feed, feed ingredients, or pet rood. The methods are particularly suitable for use in post-processing treatment of animal feed, feed ingredients, or pet food that will be transported and stored for multiple days or weeks.
Abstract:
A semiconductor device and methods of fabricating and using the same are provided. The semiconductor device comprises a channel region and at least a first, second, and third electrode. The channel region includes a compound having a transition metal and a chalcogen. The thickness of the channel region is about 3 to about 40 atomic layers.
Abstract:
Methods and devices for microfluidic detection of a biological maker in a biospecimen collected from a subject are disclosed. The microfluidic devices include nanoparticle-based nanosensors comprising supramolecular recognition sequences, protease consensus sequences, post-translationally modifiable sequences, or sterically hindered benzylether bonds for specific interaction with a biological marker. Also disclosed are particular nanosensors for detecting cytokines, and other proteins based upon supramolecular recognition without chemical modification or enzymatic cleavage.
