Abstract:
A method of carrying out the controlled oxidation of A material, such as Al(Ga)As is oxidized in a controlled manner placing it in a reactor, and causing a carrier gas containing an oxidizing vapour, such as water, at a controlled partial pressure to flow over the oxidizable Material. In this way, the reaction process can be made sensitive to only one variable.
Abstract:
A process for producing ultrafine particles of a ceramic, which comprises heating a ceramic having substantially the same components as the final ultrafine ceramic particles, a metal constituting the metal component of the final ultrafine ceramic particles, a mixture of said ceramic with said metal or carbon, or a mixture of said metal with carbon by an arc plasma or a high frequency induction plasma generated in hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, a gaseous mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen, or a gaseous mixture of nitrogen and oxygen.
Abstract:
A method for forming metal chalcogenides is disclosed. An atmosphere of an elemental middle chalcogen is formed and a metal is reacted with the chalcogen in the vapor phase to form a metal chalcogenide powder.
Abstract:
An exothermic reaction of a gas with a gas permeable material is performed in a retention vessel. Temperature control of the exothermic reaction is obtained by recirculating the gas from the top of the vessel downwardly through and co-current to the gas permeable material and removing the downwardly flowing gas at a point above the bottom of the reactor and simultaneously recirculating gas which has been cooled into the bottom of the reactor, upwardly through and counter-current to the gas permeable material and removing the gas at a point above the bottom of the reactor.
Abstract:
A suspension of a powdery substance and a reaction gas is formed by allowing the powdery substance to fall as an annular flow into a reaction space, feeding the reaction gas downwardly to encircle the annular flow of powdery substance, the kinetic energy of the annular flow of descending powdery substance being utilized towards its gradual spreading to the sides with the aid of a sliding surface disposed within the reaction space, so that the flow of powdery substance which has been spread to be laterally directed will meet the reaction gas flow substantially at right angles in the reaction space.
Abstract:
An apparatus for carrying out chlorinating reactions when extracting metalsuch as titanium, zirconium or the like during the extraction of uranium and thorium during the reprocessing of burned-off fuel and/or breeder elements for core reactors and during the purification of coal and graphite. The device comprises a shaft or blast furnace which is heated by a direct flow of current and while being coaxially surrounded by a mantle or shell communicates through a connection or adapter piece with a subsequent condenser of graphite. The device according to the present invention is characterized primarily in that the shell of the furnace and the adapter piece connecting the furnace with the condenser are made of graphite. The shell of the furnace, the condenser and the adapter piece connecting the shell with the condenser are arranged within a steel casing designed in a gas-tight manner.
Abstract:
A heater assembly comprising cathodic plasma generating means for generating a column of plasma, a plurality of anodic plasma torches the outlets of which are symmetrically disposed about the axis of the column and circuit means for energizing said generating means and said torches, the arrangement being such that in operation a current is passed simultaneously between the generating means and each of the torches by way of said column and jets of plasma from said outlets which merge with said column. A method for effecting the chemical or physical modification of a particulate material, in which the material is heated in a high enthalpy zone including a plasma column through which current passes from cathodic plasma generating means simultaneously to each of a plurality of anodic plasma torches the outlets of which are symmetrically disposed about the axis of the column, said zone also including the region of confluence of the column with jets of plasma from the torches.
Abstract:
A reaction system and method for preparing compounds or intermediates from solid reactant materials is provided. In a specific aspect, a reaction system and methods are provided for preparation of boron-containing precursor compounds useful as precursors for ion implantation of boron in substrates. In another specific aspect, a reactor system and methods are provided for manufacture of boron precursors such as B2F4.
