Abstract:
The wheel includes an annular rim, a central hub and a plurality of spoke portions running between the rim and hub, with each spoke having a width to thickness ratio of at least 2:1, with the spoke portions having an inside portion in fixed relationship to the hub and an outside portion in fixed relationship to the rim with the spoke portions extending radially outwardly between the hub and rim. A circular member is provided affixed to at least one of the inside and outside spoke portions defining an enclosed, continuous hollow annulus and including fasteners within the hollow annulus for affixing said spoke portions to said circular member.
Abstract:
An improved aircraft wheel configuration obviates the hazard of wheel failure during take-off and landing situations when tire deflation occurs and the wheel accepts full loading on its flanges. The wheel is configured to provide a differential flange height between the inboard and outboard flanges such that the total load applied to the wheel is distributed equally between the flanges. Alternatively, and/or in addition the flanges are restructured to provide an increased section modulus and the inboard flange is designed to provide a wider contact surface.
Abstract:
Presented are hybrid metal and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite wheels for vehicle wheel assemblies, methods for making/using such wheels, and motor vehicles equipped with such wheels. A wheel for a motor vehicle wheel assembly includes a wheel face with multiple spokes that are circumferentially spaced about and project radially outward from a central hub. The central hub rotatably attaches to the vehicle's body, e.g., via a corner module. The wheel face is fabricated, e.g., as a one-piece structure, from an FRP material. A wheel barrel, which circumscribes the wheel face, includes an annular rim that mounts thereon an inflatable tire. The wheel barrel is fabricated, e.g., as a one-piece structure, from a metallic material. Multiple overmold through holes and/or inset tabs are circumferentially spaced about the annular rim. The FRP material extends through and/or surrounds the overmold through holes/inset tabs and thereby mounts the wheel face to the wheel barrel.
Abstract:
A impact resistant rim is configured to soften or minimize an impact, thereby reducing the risk of pinching or otherwise flattening the tire and/or damaging the rim. This impact resistant rim further reduces the effects of an impact by maintaining the integrity of the rim during and following the impact. In this rim design, a shock absorbing cord is inlaid, molded, an/or otherwise embedded inside opposing leading edges of the rim. The shock absorbing cord is designed to elastically and/or plastically deform during an impact.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an aircraft wheel comprising a rim and a tire (20) received on the rim, the rim comprising two parts (1; 2) assembled with one another by means of assembly bolts (5), one of the parts comprising a recess (3) in which is arranged a seal (4) which is interposed between the two parts, the wheel being characterized in that at least one of the parts comprises at least one duct (6) extending beneath the seal so as to establish a leakage path between on one hand a volume of gas delimited by the rim and the tire, and on the other hand a space between the parts, the path being nominally closed by the seal when the bolts are tightened correctly but allowing gas to leak from said volume when the bolt associated with said opening is not tightened correctly or is absent.
Abstract:
A carbon fiber rim comprises a circular rim and a heat conduction layer. The circular rim comprises carbon fiber composites, and has two opposite side surfaces facing two brake pads and two opposite hooks extending outward radially to hold tires. The heat conduction layer is arranged on the side surface of the circular rim for forming a braking region facing the brake pad. The heat conduction layer comprises a porous or mesh heat conduction material. A bicycle including the aforementioned carbon fiber rim and the manufacturing method of the carbon fiber rim are also disclosed here. The carbon fiber rim can prevent distortion due to frictional heat when braking.
Abstract:
A rim (5) for a bicycle wheel having a body (20) with a substantially annular extension with a radially outer portion (22) shaped for coupling with a tire is disclosed. The radially outer portion (22) has a hole (39) for an inflation valve. The radially outer portion (22) also includes, at the hole (39) and/or in an area proximal to the hole (39), at least one cross section having a different shape from that at an area distal from the hole, so as to form at least one second surface discontinuity (35) along the annular extension of the radially outer portion (22). The second discontinuity (35) makes it easier to assemble to wheel and allows an optimal coupling to be made between the rim (5), inflation valve, and tire, in the case of a tubeless wheel, and between rim (5), air chamber and tire, in the case of a wheel with an air chamber.
Abstract:
A spoked wheel rim for a wheeled vehicle, a mounted assembly incorporating this rim for such a vehicle and a method for assembling this mounted assembly is provided. This rim has two rim edges and a rim bottom covered by an annular ribbon that is flexible and sealed against the inflation gas that is intended to receive a tire and that is fitted with an inflation valve for inflating this tire. The ribbon includes a central portion conforming to the shape of this rim bottom and two lateral portions protruding axially from these rim edges. The lateral portions are capable of having a portion of their axial width cut off by the detachment of two respective peripheral sections of these lateral portions, so that this ribbon extends from one of the said edges to the other following this detachment.
Abstract:
A bicycle rim is provided with an annular tire mounting part, an annular spoke mounting part and a pair of side walls. The annular tire mounting part includes an outer bridge. The annular spoke mounting part includes a plurality of spoke openings disposed at predetermined intervals along a circumferential direction of the annular spoke mounting part. The annular spoke mounting part further includes at least one recess disposed in an area between two adjacent ones of the spoke openings. The at least one recess extends less than half of a circumferential distance between the two adjacent ones of the spoke openings. The side walls extend radially from the annular spoke mounting and the outer bridge to define an annular interior space. The outer bridge includes a through hole that at least partially aligns with the at least one recess as viewed in a radial direction of the bicycle rim.
