Novel polymers comprising polyolefin-substituted amines grafted with aromatic N-containing monomers such as aniline, have been found to provide oil soluble polymers having dispersant and antioxidant properties in oleaginous compositions, including fuel and lubricating oils. The polymers of this invention are further useful in electrical applications. These materials are formed by a process which comprises: (a) contacting an amine compound having at least two reactive nitrogen moieties with at least one long chain hydrocarbon-substituted reactant in an amount and under conditions sufficient to form a N-containing polymer adduct containing reactive amine groups, and (b) contacting the N-containing polymer adduct with at least one aromatic N-containing monomer under polymerization conditions to graft said N-containing polymer adduct with aromatic N-containing polymer segments. The long chain hydrocarbon-substituted reactant can comprise materials such as (i) long chain hydrocarbons substituted with mono- or dicarboxylic acid, anhydride or ester groups; (ii) halogenated long chain hydrocarbons; (iii) mixtures of formaldehyde and a long chain hydrocarbyl substituted phenol; and (iv) mixtures of formaldehyde and a reaction product formed by reaction of long chain hydrocarbons substituted with mono- or dicarboxylic acid, anhydride or ester groups and an amino-substituted, optionally hydrocarbyl-substituted phenol.

Disclosed is a liquid urethane containing adduct; a process for the preparation thereof; and applications therewith. More specifically this invention relates to a stable adduct which is a liquid at room temperature and which contains a plurality of urethane linkages, and yet which is substantially free of any isocyanate functionality or isocyanate-reactive functionality. Such adducts can be used as quenchants, lubricants, or surfactants.

A low phosphorus passenger car motor oil containing an oil of lubricating viscosity as the major component and a tri-metal detergent mixture as a minor component, wherein the tri-metal detergent mixture comprises at least one calcium overbased metal detergent, at least one magnesium overbased metal detergent and at least one sodium overbased metal detergent, wherein the tri-metal detergent mixture is present in the oil composition in an amount such that the total TBN contributed to the oil composition by the tri-metal detergent mixture is from about 2 to about 12, and wherein the calcium overbased detergent contributes from about 8 to about 42% of the total TBN contributed by the tri-metal detergent mixture, the magnesium overbased detergent contributes from about 29 to about 60% of the total TBN contributed by the tri-metal detergent mixture, and the sodium overbased detergent contributes from about 15 to about 64% of the total TBN contributed by the tri-metal detergent mixture.

This invention relates to low volatility 5W20, 5W30, 10W40, 10W50, 15W40 or 15W50 multigrade oils for crankcase lubrication of gasoline and diesel engines, the oils comprising: a) basestock having an average basestock neutral number of not less than 105 for a 5W multigrade, not less than 145 for a 10W multigrade and not less than 200 for a 15W multigrade, b) a detergent inhibitor package including an ashless dispersant comprising an oil soluble polymeric hydrocarbon backbone having functional groups in which the hydrocarbon backbone is derived from an ethylene alpha-olefin (EAO) copolymer or alpha-olefin homo- or copolymer having an M.sub.n of from 500 to 7000, and preferably having >30% of terminal vinylidene unsaturation, and c) a viscosity modifier. These multigrade crankcase oils provide better volatility with reduced use or even without the need for expensive light neutral basestocks or non-conventional lubricant basestocks, while at the same time providing adequate control of sludge and varnish.

A composition of an oil of lubricating viscosity; a polymer, soluble in the lubricant composition and having a number average molecular weight of greater than 50,000; and a combustible solvent in which the remaining components of the lubricant are soluble, provides a composition suitable for lubricating a two-stroke cycle engine. The lubricant composition provides good lubricity with low smoke generation.

This invention relates to a new water soluble lubricant for a medical device, such as a catheter and an introducer needle. The lubricant is a silicone surfactant which is non-ionic and which is a good lubricating fluid. Preferably the silicone surfactant that is used is a block copolymer polyalkylene oxide-modified polydimethylsiloxane. Water is used as the solvent for this lubricant. The lubrication solution includes a solution stabilizer to clarify the solution and antimicrobial agents to inhibit microbial growth in the water solution or on the coated product. Vitamin E or its derivatives may also be used in the lubrication solution. When the lubrication solution is used to lubricate Teflon products, a small amount of a low molecular weight alcohol is added to the lubrication solution to increase wettability.
