Abstract: An energy storage device that includes a housing, which includes at least one end panel that includes at least one aperture therethrough. The device further includes a battery cell housed in the housing. The battery cell includes mutually opposed first and second faces joined at their edges. The device also includes a heat sink adjacent to the battery cell and in thermal contact with the first face of the battery cell. The heat sink defines at least one cooling medium passage extending parallel to the face of the adjacent battery cell. The cooling medium passage opens onto the at least one aperture formed through the at least one end panel of the housing.

Abstract: A receptacle for use with lithium ion charging stations. The receptacle contains an admixture for use in suppressing a cellular telephone battery fire. The admixture is a hydrated super absorbent polymer having substantially superior fire suppression properties. When used with lithium ion batteries, once a battery is arcing or an excess buildup of heat occurs, the walls of the receptacle will rupture and the admixture will cover the specific area causing a thermal event. These particular properties and ratios of the admixture will enable a fire to be extinguished. The receptacle may include heat or pressure sensors.

Abstract: A system and method of simultaneously calculating an isolation resistance and a y-capacitance of a RESS may include the steps of: injecting a first signal into a RESS; recording an output signal from the RESS in response to the injection of the first signal; multiplying the first signal with the output signal to determine a first product; multiplying a second signal with the output signal to determine a second product wherein the second signal is orthogonal to the first signal; filtering the first product to determine a first constant; filtering the second product to determine a second constant; processing the first constant to determine a y-capacitance value; and processing the second constant to determine an isolation resistance value.
