摘要: A honeycomb body, in particular for use in the exhaust system of a motor vehicle, includes an at least partially ceramic honeycomb structure through which a fluid can flow. The honeycomb structure is disposed in a tubular casing and has cavities. The honeycomb body has at least two axial subregions in a longitudinal direction. The honeycomb structure is connected to the tubular casing in an axial securing region and an axial measurement sensor region has a recess for accommodating a measurement sensor in the honeycomb structure. The honeycomb body has a permanent connection between the tubular casing and the ceramic honeycomb structure due to its preferably force-locking and/or form-locking connection between the tubular casing and the honeycomb structure in the securing region. Despite the recess, further damage to the honeycomb structure in the measurement sensor region is avoided. A process for producing such a honeycomb body is also provided.

摘要: An arrangement is provided for an exhaust emission control device having a filter cartridge fitted through insertion into an inner shell of a muffler. The inner shell is formed to have an inner diameter greater than an outer diameter of a cartridge shell to provide an insertion clearance. The inner shell is formed with an inward, tapered portion gradually reduced in diameter toward a direction of insertion of the filter cartridge, with a portion of the inner shell inward of the tapered portion formed as a small-diameter portion having a reduced insertion clearance. Sealing and cushioning materials are fitted over the outer peripheral surface on an inward end of the cartridge shell and are adapted to be held in a clamped manner between the filter cartridge and the small-diameter portion of the inner shell upon fitting of the filter cartridge.

摘要: A method and apparatus for assembling an exhaust treatment device such as a catalytic converter employs post calibration to achieve a desired bulk gap density of a support mat surrounding a substrate in the device housing. The mat is gauged under pressure to a thickness yielding the target bulk gap density and the pressure is saved for use in comprising the device housing against the mat after soft stuffing of the mat/substrate subassembly into the housing.

摘要: A method of producing an exhaust gas-carrying device in which the gas-carrying device includes at least one insert piece and a cylindrical outer housing is disclosed. The method includes the steps of introducing the insert piece into the outer housing and applying radial forces with clamping jaws which bear against the outer surface area of the outer housing and plastically deform the outer housing inwards in order to clamp the insert piece in the outer housing. The clamping jaws are configured to have edges such that marking lines are formed in the outer housing which do not continuously extend axially parallel to the outer housing along that portion of the outer housing in which the insert piece is arranged.

摘要: A pollution control element-retaining or -mounting member (2) for mounting a pollution control element (1) within a casing and that shows good canning operability, that is not separated from the pollution control element during the canning operation, and that is excellent in one, some or all of heat resistance, an aerial pressure retaining property and erosion resistance. The pollution control element-mounting member (1) comprises a mat (2) containing fiber material, with the mat having a thickness with an external portion (2a) having an external peripheral surface for contacting the casing (4) and an internal portion (2b) having an internal peripheral surface for contacting the pollution control element (1). At least the internal peripheral surface of the internal portion, and optionally the external peripheral surface of the external portion, (2a) is impregnated with a friction/adhesion controlling agent (3) such that the coefficient of friction between the external peripheral surface and the casing (4) is lower than the coefficient of friction between the internal peripheral surface and the pollution control element (1). The friction/adhesion controlling agent (3) can decompose and dissipate under operating conditions of the pollution control element (1).

摘要: A substrate assembly is stuffed into a converter outer shell to form a catalytic converter having a desired gap bolt density (GBD) value. The substrate assembly is formed by wrapping and taping a mat around a catalytic substrate. A predetermined pressure is applied to the substrate assembly and an outer diameter of the substrate assembly is measured at this predetermined pressure. A GBD value is predicted based on this measurement and if the GBD value is acceptable the substrate assembly is stuffed into the converter outer shell.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a method of producing a container such as a catalytic converter for holding a fragile substrate in a cylindrical housing with a shock absorbent member wrapped around the substrate, with an appropriate holding force determined on the basis of frictional force between the shock absorbent member and the one with the smaller coefficient of friction out of the substrate and the cylindrical housing. The method comprises the steps of (1) inserting the substrate with the shock absorbent member wrapped around the substrate, into the cylindrical housing loosely, (2) applying an axial load to the substrate so as to move the substrate along a longitudinal axis of the cylindrical housing by a predetermined distance, monitoring the axial load applied to the substrate, and (3) reducing a diameter of at least a part of the cylindrical housing with the substrate held therein along the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical housing, with the shock absorbent member being compressed, to such an extent that the axial load equals a predetermined value.

摘要: A honeycomb structure obtained by bonding, into one piece, a plurality of honeycomb segments (2) each having a plurality of passages (6) surrounded by cell walls and extending in the axial direction of the segment. In the honeycomb structure, a material A (3) having compressive elasticity is provided between a side surface (21) of at least one honeycomb segment [2(a)] not constituting the outermost peripheral surface (23) of the honeycomb structure (1) and a side surface of the honeycomb segment [(2(b)) adjacent thereto. A honeycomb structure assembly (8) obtained by providing a material B (5) having compressive elasticity on the outermost peripheral surface (23) of the honeycomb structure (1) in a compressed state and thereby compression-holding the resulting honeycomb structure in a metallic container (11). A honeycomb structure using materials having compressive elasticity (B) is resistant to breakage, and has superior durability and reliability, by reducing the thermal stress generated therein during use by a sharp temperature change of inflow gas, a local heat of reaction and a local heat of combustion.
