Abstract: A method of crimping an implantable prosthetic valve can include placing protective material over at least a portion of the implantable prosthetic valve. The protective material can be configured to occupy space between open cells of a frame of the implantable prosthetic valve to prevent damage to a leaflet structure of the implantable prosthetic valve. The method can also include crimping the implantable prosthetic valve with the protective material on the implantable prosthetic valve, and removing the protective material from between the frame and the leaflet structure of the implantable prosthetic valve.

Abstract: An implantable prosthetic valve can comprise an annular frame comprising an inflow end and an outflow end and being radially collapsible and expandable between a radially collapsed configuration and a radially expanded configuration, the frame defining an axial direction extending from the inflow end to the outflow end, a leaflet structure positioned within the frame and secured thereto, and an annular outer skirt positioned around an outer surface of the frame, wherein the outer skirt comprises an inflow edge secured to the frame at a first location, an outflow edge comprising a plurality of alternating projections and notches, wherein the projections are secured to the frame at a second location, and the notches are not directly secured to the frame, an intermediate portion between the inflow edge and the outflow edge that comprises a plurality of openings.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems used to deliver a prosthetic heart valve to a deficient valve. In one embodiment, for instance, a support member is positioned to at least partially surround the native leaflets of a valve. A locking member is used to couple both ends of the support member, forming a support band. An expandable prosthetic heart valve is delivered into the native heart valve and expanded while the expandable prosthetic valve is at least partially within the support band, thereby causing one or more of the native leaflets of the native heart valve to be frictionally secured between the support band and the expanded prosthetic heart valve.

Abstract: A device for crimping a radially expandable and collapsible prosthetic valve comprises a coiled wire frame having a longitudinal opening extending from a proximal end to a distal end thereof. The opening has a first state and a second state, the opening in the first state having a first diameter dimensioned to receive the prosthetic valve in an expanded or partially crimped configuration therein, and the opening in the second state having a second diameter dimensioned to receive the prosthetic valve in a crimped configuration. The coiled wire frame has a first end coupled to a first member and a second end coupled to a second member. The first member is movable relative to the second member to convert the coiled wire frame from the first state to the second state.

Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve according to the present disclosure comprises a radially collapsible and expandable annular frame and a leaflet structure comprising a plurality of leaflets mounted within the frame. The frame in particular embodiments can have commissure attachment portions that are configured to support the commissures of the leaflets at locations spaced radially inwardly toward the longitudinal flow axis of the prosthetic valve relative to the frame portions circumscribing the moveable portions of the leaflets. When the leaflets open under pressure of blood flowing through the prosthetic valve, the moveable portions of the leaflets are retained at positions spaced inwardly from the inner surface of the frame to protect against abrasion of the leaflets.

Abstract: An implantable prosthetic valve including a plurality of leaflets and an annular frame that is radially expandable from a radially compressed state to a radially expanded state. The prosthetic valve also includes a skirt assembly comprising a reinforcing layer sandwiched between a first encapsulating layer and a second encapsulating layer, which are made of a thin elastomeric material. The reinforcing layer comprises a first set of yarns and a second set of yarns interwoven in a leno weave pattern, wherein the first and second sets of yarns are non-perpendicular and non-parallel to a longitudinal axis of the frame when the valve is in the radially expanded state. The first encapsulating layer and the second encapsulating layer can be fused or bonded along specified regions and form one or more pockets that enable free movement of sections of the reinforcing layer disposed therein.

Abstract: Embodiments of a radially collapsible and expandable prosthetic heart valve and method for crimping the prosthetic heart valve are disclosed. A method of radially compressing a prosthetic valve can include partially inserting the valve while in a radially expanded configuration into a crimping device comprising crimper jaws, wherein a portion of the valve comprising an outer skirt extends outside of the crimper jaws. The method can further include crimping the valve to a first partially collapsed configuration, further inserting the valve into the crimping device, such that the outer skirt is between the crimper jaws, and crimping the valve to a second partially collapsed configuration, wherein a diameter of the valve is smaller in the second partially collapsed configuration than in the first partially collapsed configuration.

Abstract: Embodiments of a prosthetic heart valve are disclosed. An implantable prosthetic valve can include an annular frame having an inflow end, an outflow end and a central longitudinal axis extending from the inflow end to the outflow end. The valve includes an inner skirt, where a first portion of the inner skirt extends circumferentially around the central longitudinal axis along an inner surface of the frame and a second portion of the inner skirt extends circumferentially around the central longitudinal axis outside of the frame and axially beyond the inflow end of the frame such that an inflow end of the inner skirt is positioned upstream of and is axially spaced from the inlet end of the frame. The valve includes a valvular structure including two or more leaflets, where each of the two or more leaflets are secured to the inner skirt.

The plurality of leaflets is disposed within the frame and configured to regulate the flow of blood through the frame in one direction, each leaflet comprising a cusp edge portion.
