摘要: A method for performing elastographic deformation mapping of tissues and plaques comprises: introducing a distal portion of a catheter to an interior of an interior body of a patient; applying, from a palpator in the distal portion, one of a directed fluid or a mechanical indenter to produce a surface-applied palpation force to a target area of the interior body to mechanically displace the interior body and cause elastographic deformation of the target area of one or more surface and subsurface tissues and plaques; and directing and delivering an OCT (optical coherence tomography) beam, from an OCT imaging sensor in the distal portion, for OCT deformation detection including elastographic deformation measurement to provide elastographic mapping of the target area.

摘要: A gel-like material is provided, the gel-like material having an on-demand state-change capability, whether the on-demand change is to an initial state, a final state or both, at least some of the gel present or delivered undergoing the change. Alternatively, the gel-like material may have a spatially and/or temporally selective state-change, whether on-demand change is to an initial state, a final state or both, at least some of the gel present or delivered undergoing the change. Or, the gel-like material may selectively change state due to gel contacting diseased tissue having a natural thermal or compositional contrast or artificially induced thermal or compositional contrast capable of causing state-change via a state-change parameter, independent of an on-demand nature or a spatial/temporal selective nature.

摘要: A system for optically characterizing an acoustic beam generally includes an immersant, which is an immersion medium seeded with a plurality of seed particles that respond to illumination with fluorescence indicative of at least one parameter of the immersant such as flow or temperature. Optical transmitters illuminate the immersant slicewise, and optical receptors receive the fluorescence in order to generate a three-dimensional map of the parameter over time. A processor back-calculates one or more characteristics of an acoustic beam that results in the map. The processor initially generates a behavior model of an acoustic beam propagating in the immersant by utilizing initial guesses for the characteristics. The initial guess model is compared to the map, and an optimization routine is used to refine the initial guesses. The process repeats iteratively with refined guesses until the difference between the model and the map is minimized.

摘要: Obesity or fat deposits are treated with ultrasound. In one embodiment, a waveguide-based apparatus and method are disclosed for applying ultrasound to a treatment-subject for the purpose of providing treatment or therapy for obesity, fat-deposits, cosmetic benefit or other bodily therapy tasks. In another embodiment, a novel apparatus and method are disclosed for providing at least one such treatment or therapy using a liquid-based waveguide. In yet another embodiment, a wearable apparatus is disclosed that incorporates a waveguide of the invention. Any of the embodiments has application to hospital use, clinical use or home use, for example, and the place of use will likely be determined by which treatment mechanism is employed and at what power-level.

摘要: An ablation catheter comprises an elongated catheter body; at least one ablation element disposed in a distal portion which is adjacent the distal end of the catheter body; an illumination optical element disposed in the distal portion, the illumination optical element being light-transmissive to emit light from the illumination optical element to the targeted tissue region; and a collection optical element disposed in the distal portion, the collection optical element being light-transmissive to collect one or more of returned, backscattered or newly excited light from the targeted tissue region. The illumination or excitation optical element and the collection optical element are axially spaced from one another and axially optically isolated from one another within the distal portion to substantially prevent light from traveling between the illumination optical element and the collection optical element along a path within the distal portion.
