A process for preparing recyclable fiber composites, comprising bonding fibers with a polymeric bonding agent applied as an aqueous polymer dispersion to said fibers, the polymeric bonding agent comprising at least one addition polymer which, in the state of an aqueous dispersion, has a film forming capability at the temperature at which the addition polymer is combined with said fibers, and said aqueous polymer dispersion, when subjected to a change in pH, is converted into an aqueous solution of the addition polymer. The aqueous addition polymer of the addition polymer dispersion can contain protic acid groups, and the state of the dispersion can be converted to an aqueous addition polymer solution by raising the pH of the aqueous medium. Alternatively, the addition polymer may contain basic groups, in particular, amino groups, and its state as a dispersion can be converted into an aqueous addition polymer resolution by lowering the pH of the aqueous medium.

Described is a process for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion from ethylenically unsaturated, free-radically polymerizable monomers. In a first stage, a first polymer is prepared by free-radical emulsion polymerization. In a second stage, an aqueous polymer dispersion is prepared in the presence of the first polymer. The monomers of the first stage comprise monomers with acid groups. The polymerization of the first stage takes place at a low pH of less than 5. The acid groups of the first polymer are neutralized during the polymerization of the second stage to an extent such that the pH of the polymer dispersion at the end of the second stage is greater than 5. The aqueous polymer dispersions can be used as adhesives for producing composite films.

One of the polymers is selected from polymers which are capable of forming crystalline domains and copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, and the second polymer is an amorphous polyurethane, the quantitative weight ratio of first polymer to second polymer being from 2:8 to 8:2. The second component comprises at least one silane compound that is reactive toward carboxyl groups. The adhesive can be used to produce film-laminated moldings for automobile construction which feature high resistance to climatic cycling.

A description is given of an adhesive composition which comprises a polymer preferably in the form of an emulsion polymer in dispersion in water. The emulsion polymer has a glass transition temperature of less than −61° C. and is preparable by emulsion polymerization at temperatures less than 80° C. from 80-95% by weight of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and 5-20% by weight of further, ethylenically unsaturated, free-radically copolymerizable monomers, of which 0.2% to 2% by weight, based on the total amount of monomers, are acid-containing comonomers. The adhesive composition can be used in particular as a pressure-sensitive adhesive for producing plasticizer-free, self-adhesive, redetachable paper labels.
