Abstract:
Exemplified methods and systems facilitate presentation of data derived from measurements of endotoxins in fluid samples. In particular, the exemplified methods and systems facilitate presentation of such measurements in a graphical user interface and/or in a report for endotoxin concentrations in a fluid sample. The presentation facilitates a unified and intuitive graphic visualization that are presented within a single interactive interface and/or report.

Abstract:
A concentration measuring apparatus is provided having a fluid sensing means, an optic transmission means, a signal processing means, and an interface means. The fluid sensing means comprises a reflective sensing media in a self-contained cassette. The cassette is operationally associated with a sample chamber. The cassette advances the reflective sensing media by a motor which is driven by the signal processing means. The optic means comprises a fiber optic line which is partially associated with a lamp and partially associated with a photocell. Light having a wave length in a specified range originates from the lamp, passes through a portion of the fiber optic cable and is cast upon the reflective sensing media. The altnerate portion of the fiber optic cable receives the reflected light from the reflective sensing media for transfer to the photocell. A signal is generated by the photocell representative of the change of reflectivity of the light from the reflective sensing media. The signal from the photocell is accepted by the signal processing means. The signal processing means contains an amplifier, an analog to digital converter, a computer and associated controls. The interface means is associated with the signal processing means. The interface means comprises a display, a 4-to-20 milliamp card and remote, explosion-proof switches for operator interaction with the concentration measuring apparatus. Also, the interface means is the link to an outside printer, an outside analog recorder as well as an outside host computer.

Furthermore, the present invention relates to an apparatus and computer program for evaluating coagulability of a blood specimen.
Abstract:
A portable system and method for measuring the concentration of multiple chemical or biological substances where an onsite analysis of such substances is needed. The new and original handheld sensor system uses a disposable optical test element and a spectroscopic detector that measures the test element response to specific analytes through a change in light absorbance, luminescence, and other forms of light-based response. In this way, reflection light intensities indicative of the test element response can be used to measure the concentration of the target analytes. The sensor system is also capable of being interfaced to an information processing unit or computer so that analytical data can be manipulated or stored electronically.
Abstract:
A multi-layer blood culture sensor includes two matrices. The first matrix is a polymer that is permeable to carbon dioxide and water, but impermeable to protons. A pH sensitive absorbance based dye is encapsulated or isolated in the polymer. The second matrix is a polymer with a pH insensitive fluorescent dye encapsulated or isolated in the polymer. The matrices are spectrally coupled and are useful for the determination of microorganisms in a blood culture bottle.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for use in quantifying, in a whole blood sample in which the red cells are lysed, a component which will react with a reagent to form an antigen-antibody complex, the method comprising mixing the sample with the reagent to obtain the complex, exposing the sample to a source of radiation and measuring the intensity of radiation scattered through a given angle by the complex, and the apparatus including a container for receiving the sample which has been treated with the reagent to the component, the container being transparent to radiation having a wavelength falling within a given band width, typically 460-530 nm. A source of radiation within this band width is provided together with a device for detecting the intensity of radiation scattered through a given angle by the sample.
Abstract:
This invention concerns spectroscopy apparatus comprising a light source arranged to generate a light profile on a sample, a photodetector having at least one photodetector element for detecting characteristic light generated from interaction of the sample with light from the light source, a support for supporting the sample, the support movable relative to the light profile, and a processing unit. The processing unit is arranged to associate a spectral value recorded by the photodetector element at a particular time with a point on the sample predicted to have generated the characteristic light recorded by the photodetector element at the particular time based on relative motion anticipated to have occurred between the support and the light profile.
Abstract:
For optical determination of the catalytic enzyme activity of a sample by means of enzyme reactants which are split under the influence of the enzyme to be measured, the enzyme reactant is placed at the end of an optical fiber and brought into contact with the sample to be determined. The measurements are carried out by observing the rate of change in spectral characteristics of the enzyme reactant, or its reaction products, resulting from the enzyme reaction. The method permits measurements of undiluted blood and in-vivo determinations of enzyme activities.
