摘要: A method of utilizing a distractor in a joint replacement procedure is provided. The method includes releasably engaging a datum to a datum securement of the distractor and gripping a handle of the distractor in an insertion position. The handle includes a first handle portion and a second handle portion. The method includes disposing a paddle of a tissue engaging portion of the distractor against a tissue surface and adjusting the handle from the insertion position to the distraction position to thereby independently move the paddle with respect to both the second handle portion and the first handle portion such that the paddle remains at a generally constant angle against the tissue surface as the tissue surface is distracted. The paddle is attached directly and exclusively to a distal tip of the second handle portion such that the paddle pivots about an axis transverse to a length of the handle.

In this example, the first device is configured to display a presentation to a first user, wherein the presentation includes one or more virtual elements and wherein the one or more virtual elements comprise a three-dimensional (3D) virtual representation of one or more anatomical features associated with the orthopedic surgical procedure. In this example, the second device is configured to display the presentation to a second user. In this example, the one or more virtual elements demonstrate at least one aspect of the orthopedic surgical procedure and wherein control of at least some of the one or more virtual elements are assignable from the first device to the second device.

摘要: Described within are systems, methods and apparatus for a bone mounted robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery system for precise implant position, soft tissue balancing and guidance of tools during a surgical procedure, particularly partial or total knee replacement procedure. The system features a bone mounted robotic arm with end-effector for precise positioning of surgical tool, position in of implants and balancing of soft tissues. The reconfigurable robotic system requires minimal training by surgeons, is intuitive to use similar to conventional instrumented surgery and has a small footprint. The system works with existing, conventional instruments, patient specific instruments, sensor-assisted systems and computer-assisted systems and does not require increased surgical time and safely provides the enhanced precision achievable by robotic-assisted systems and computer-assisted technologies.

摘要: Systems and methods for preparing a bone for a surgical procedure are provided. In general, the described techniques use a surgical guide device including a cannula having first and second parallel elongate channels adjacent to one another, and first and second elongate sleeves configured to be removably and replaceably received in the first and second channels, respectively. The first sleeve has a plurality of openings formed therein, each being in communication with a respective wire-receiving lumen extending through the first sleeve. Each of the openings defines a different offset distance between the wire-receiving lumen in communication with that opening and a wire-receiving lumen extending through the second sleeve. The surgical device can be manipulated so as to define positions of first and second openings in a bone, such as a glenoid or other bone, to receive bone screws or other elements for attaching a bone graft to the bone.

摘要: Methods and systems for providing a safety mechanism for a robotically controlled surgical tool. Embodiments of the methods use sensors to detect parameters that vary by the tissue traversed by a surgical tool. The sensors detect signals arising from the interaction of the surgical tool with the tissue and provide this information to a robotic controller. For example, during drilling, the sensors may measure power, vibration, sound frequency, mechanical load, electrical impedance, and distance traversed according to preoperative measurements on a three-dimensional image set used for planning the tool trajectory. By comparing the detected output with that expected for the tool position based on the planned trajectory, identified discrepancies in output would indicate that the tool has veered from the planned trajectory. The robotic controller may then alter the tool trajectory, change the speed of the tool, or discontinue power to the tool, thereby preventing damage to underlying tissue.
