Abstract:
A steel cord (20) comprises a plurality of steel filaments (22, 24) arranged in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the steel cord (20) without twisting. The steel cord (20) further comprises a wrapping filament (26) twisted around the steel cord (20). Each of said steel filaments (22, 24) is a flat wire having flat surfaces. The steel filament (24) near the center of the steel cord (20) has a bigger width than the steel filaments (22) further away from the center of the steel cord (20) such that the cross-section of said steel cord (20) approximates an oval shape with the bending stiffness around the shorter axis of the oval shape being greater than the bending stiffness around the longer axis. In a tire, the steel cord being used as a reinforcement, the longer axis being arranged perpendicular to the radial direction of the tire.

Disclosed is a tire-reinforcing steel cord for a radial tire. The tire-reinforcing steel cord has a double layer structure including a first-layer core and a second-layer core provided on the surface of the first-layer core. The first-layer core has an elliptical or rectangular cross section. The tire-reinforcing steel cord can improve processability, fatigue characteristics, and rolling resistance performance of a tire, resulting in improved fuel efficiency. A radial tire using the tire-reinforcing steel cord is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A hybrid rope constructed of a plurality of strands, wherein each strand is constructed of a fiber center, a jacket surrounding the fiber center, and a plurality of wires surrounding the jacket. The fiber center can be constructed of one or more high-strength synthetic fibers or yarns. The jacket can be constructed of polypropylene, thermoplastic polyurethane, high-density polyethylene, linear low-density polyethylene, nylon or other similar materials. The jacket can have a braided or woven design and adds a protective layer between the fiber center and the wires. The wires can be constructed of high-strength steel wires, galvanized steel or stainless steel. The fibers or yarns that make of the fiber center are twisted to lay right and then covered with the jacket. The wires then surround the jacket and are twisted to lay to the left. This creates a torque-balanced condition of the hybrid rope.

Abstract:
A reinforcing steel cord for rubber products, such as steel belted radial tires or conveyor belts, is disclosed. This steel cord is improved in rubber penetration and ageing adhesive force relative to the rubber material. The steel cord is formed by twisting a plurality of brass coated external element wires around a flat and spirally twisted core, with the twisted direction of the core being the same as or opposite to that of the resulting steel cord. In the steel cord, the pitch of the twisted core is set to allow the core to be twisted 0.2 to 2 times within the pitch of the cord, thus preferably forming sufficient interspaces between the core and the external wires in addition to the interspaces between the external wires. Since the rubber material is completely filled in the steel cord due to such interspaces, the steel cord is remarkably improved in buckling fatigue resistance, rubber penetration, air permeability, rubber adhesive force, ageing adhesive force relative to rubber, protection of brass coated surfaces of wires, and workability during a process of producing rubber products. The steel cords of this invention are most preferably used as a reinforcing material for steel belted radial tires.
