Abstract: Methods and systems for monitoring use, determining risk, and pricing insurance policies for a vehicle having one or more autonomous or semi-autonomous operation features arm provided. According to certain aspects, the operating status of the features, the identity of a vehicle operator, risk levels for operation of the vehicle by the vehicle operator, or damage to the vehicle may be determined based upon sensor or other data. According to further aspects, decisions regarding transferring control between the features and the vehicle operator may be made based upon sensor data and information regarding the vehicle operator. Additional aspects may recommend or install updates to the autonomous operation features based upon determined risk levels. Some aspects may include monitoring transportation infrastructure and communicating information about the infrastructure to vehicles.

Abstract: A live map system may be used to propagate observations collected by autonomous vehicles operating in an environment to other autonomous vehicles and thereby supplement a digital map used in the control of the autonomous vehicles. In addition, a live map system in some instances may be used to propagate location-based teleassist triggers to autonomous vehicles operating within an environment. A location-based teleassist trigger may be generated, for example, in association with a teleassist session conducted between an autonomous vehicle and a remote teleassist system proximate a particular location, and may be used to automatically trigger a teleassist session for another autonomous vehicle proximate that location and/or to propagate a suggested action to that other autonomous vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicle capability broadcaster may receive information indicating a condition in an environment where an AV may operate. The vehicle capability broadcaster determines a first vehicle capability parameter and a second vehicle capability parameter based on the condition. The vehicle capability parameters may indicate capabilities of the AV for making different types of motions, e.g., limits of the AV making different motions. The vehicle capability broadcaster may transmit the first vehicle capability parameter to a first planning module and transmit the second vehicle capability parameter to a second planning module. The first planning module and the second planning module may plan one or more motions of the AV in the operation based on the vehicle capability parameters. The vehicle capability broadcaster may update a vehicle capability parameter and transmit the updated vehicle capability parameter to one of the planning modules after the one or more motions are planned.

Abstract: An autonomous navigation system which enables autonomous navigation of a vehicle along one or more portions of a driving route based on monitoring, at the vehicle, various features of the route as the vehicle is manually navigated along the route to develop a characterization of the route. The characterization is progressively updated with repeated manual navigations along the route, and autonomous navigation of the route is enabled when a confidence indicator of the characterization meets a threshold indication. Characterizations can be updated in response to the vehicle encountering changes in the route and can include a set of driving rules associated with the route, where the driving rules are developed based on monitoring the navigation of one or more vehicles of the route. Characterizations can be uploaded to a remote system which processes data to develop and refine route characterizations and provide characterizations to one or more vehicles.

Abstract: A vehicle configured to operate in an autonomous mode is provided. The vehicle is configured to obtain an indication of a final destination, and, if the final destination is not on a pre-approved road for travel by the vehicle, the vehicle is configured to determine a route from the vehicle's current location to an intermediary destination. The vehicle is further configured to determine a means for the vehicle user to reach the final destination from the intermediate destination.

Abstract: A vehicle system includes a plurality of devices and a controller. Abstract: According to certain aspects, a computer-implemented method for operating an autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle may be provided. With the customer's permission, an identity of a vehicle operator may be identified and a vehicle operator profile may be retrieved. Operating data regarding autonomous operation features operating the vehicle may be received from vehicle-mounted sensors. When a request to disable an autonomous feature is received, a risk level for the autonomous feature is determined and compared with a driver behavior setting for the autonomous feature stored in the vehicle operator profile. Based upon the risk level comparison, the autonomous vehicle retains control of vehicle or the autonomous feature is disengaged depending upon which is the safer driver—the autonomous vehicle or the vehicle human occupant. As a result, unsafe disengagement of self-driving functionality for autonomous vehicles may be alleviated. Insurance discounts may be provided for autonomous vehicles having this safety functionality.
