    摘要: In this invention an optical fiber doped with a rare earth element and coupled to be pumped with a laser is coupled to an optical feedback loop. The feedback loop couples the output signal of the fiber amplifier to the input of the fiber amplifier. A narrow bandwidth filter coupled to the feedback loop allows a selected wavelength of the amplified spontaneous emission to pass from the output of the fiber amplifier to the input of the fiber amplifier. The feedback signal has a wavelength which is different from that of the pump signal and the wavelengths of the signals to be amplified. In operation, when bursts of optical signals from at least two discrete word or frequency division multiplexed channels are amplified in the fiber amplifier, the undesired fluctuations of gain of the output signals normally due to transient saturation of the erbium-doped filter amplifier are substantially eliminated.

    摘要: A laser device for generating frequency-doubled laser pulses at maximum eciency. A laser rod is optically pumped to radiate unpolarized light at 1.064.mu. wavelength for transmission within a ring-type resonator defined by a flat mirror and a turning prism. The light from one end of the rod is linearly polarized by a beam splitter into two parallel beams of orthogonal components which are transmitted through an 0.532.mu. output mirror, a frequency doubler phase matched for one component, and a Q-switch, to the turning prism for return along the beam of the other component to the beamsplitter. The output mirror, doubler and Q-switch are substantially ineffective during the pumping cycle, and because the component beam axes are reversed, the light does not return to the rod for stimulating light emission. After peak level pumping, however, the Q-switch is biased to rotate each component one quarter wavelength and return the components to combine and reenter the rod for stimulated light emission. The frequency doubler, now receiving high power radiation, transforms a portion of the returning 1.064.mu. component to a 0.532.mu. component which is then reflected out of the resonator by the output mirror.

    摘要: Technologies pertaining to accounting for pulse history effects are described herein. In connection with accounting for pulse history effects, an amount of time between a first current pulse and a second current pulse that are to be transmitted to a pulsed laser is determined. Based upon such an amount of time, a determination is made as to whether a porch pulse is to be prepended to the second current pulse. When the porch pulse is to be prepended to the second current pulse, an amplitude and duration of the porch pulse are computed based upon the amount of time. The porch pulse is transmitted to the pulsed laser immediately followed by the second current pulse, wherein the porch pulse pre-charges the pulsed laser for emitting a pulse of light based upon the second current pulse.
