摘要: The semiconductor optical device is mounted junction down on a mounting plate via the solder metal of the mounting plate. The electrode of the semiconductor optical device facing the mounting plate is partially coated with a dielectric film and the dielectric film is in contact with the solder metal on the mounting plate. The reaction between the semiconductor optical device and the solder metal of the mounting plate can be suppressed without deteriorating the thermal conductivity between the semiconductor optical device and the mounting plate. Therefore, it is possible to improve the reliability of the semiconductor optical device mounted in the junction down form since diffusion of the solder metal into the semiconductor can be prevented.

摘要: An image processing apparatus includes an area specifying unit that specifies a closed area emitting fluorescence in a fluorescence image as a cell area in a cell population including a number of dispersed cells. The fluorescence image is generated from fluorescence emitted by the cell population irradiated with a scanning laser beam. The apparatus also includes a nucleus data removing unit that removes data corresponding to a nucleus in the cell area; an overlapping cell specifying unit that specifies an overlapping cell area where cells overlap, based on a fluorescence intensity of a cytoplasm portion corresponding to an image where the data corresponding to the nucleus is removed; and an analyzed image generating unit that generates an analyzed image where data of the overlapping cell area is removed from the fluorescence image.

摘要: An optical integrated circuit having optical devices is fabricated. These optical devices must be biased in the mutually opposite directions. If such an optical integrated circuit is fabricated using a conductive semiconductor substrate as conventionally, it is not possible to drive the devices by a single power supply since the substrate side is shared as a common polarity by the devices. The present invention realizes a structure where both anode and cathode of each device can be isolated electrically by conventional process technology and provides an optical integrated circuit which can be driven by a single power supply. An optical integrated circuit is formed on a semi-insulative or insulative substrate. A high resistivity region which extends at least from the active layer to the substrate and includes part of an optical waveguide between the devices is formed so as to electrically isolate the anode and cathode of each integrated device from the other device.

摘要: A battery is provided which has a high capacity and can improve battery characteristics, such as cycle characteristics. The battery includes a spirally wound electrode body, wherein a cathode and an anode are wound with a separator in between. The anode includes, for example, simple substances, alloys, compounds of metal elements or metalloid elements capable of forming an alloy with Li, the like and combinations thereof. An electrolytic solution wherein an electrolyte salt is dissolved in a solvent is impregnated in the separator. For the electrolyte salt, a light metallic salt having B—O bond or P—O bond, such as difluoro[oxalato-O,O′]lithium borate and tetra fluoro[oxalato-O,O′]lithium phosphate, can be used. By forming a stable coating, decomposition reaction of the solvent can be inhibited, and reaction between the anode and the solvent can be prevented.

摘要: With the use of a wavelength multiplex light source capable of being adapted to a wavelength standard channel by an easy method, wavelength multiplex optical communication equipment is realized at a low cost and with excellent repeatability in performance. In a preferred implementation, a part of output light of a tunable light source 101 is guided to a wavelength stabilizer device where the difference thereof from a predetermined wavelength is detected with the use of photodetectors and a processor and fed back to the light source via controllers. Specifically, a controller 108 supplies a widely-variable output to an upper electrode of a heater-integrated tunable laser, which is formed by mounting a thin film heater just above the upper electrode of a distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser that excels in wavelength controllability. The controller and compensates for the variance of the wavelength of the output light from the predetermined frequency using the output of the processor. An optical transmitter suitable for high-density wavelength multiplex optical communications can be realized.

摘要: Branching pipes connect a surge tank to an intake manifold of an internal combustion engine. The branching pipes are made such that each gas column of the internal combustion receives a uniform intake volume. This is achieved by either making each branching pipe of the same length, or by adjusting the inside diameters of the branching pipes, thereby creating a flow delay of the intake into the gas columns, resulting in uniform intake volume. The inside diameters of the branching pipes are either made uniformly of a different diameter, or, alternatively, the inside diameters of the branching pipes include throttles for reducing the diameter of the branching pipe at a localized portion. In both cases, a flow delay of the intake into the gas columns is compensated, resulting in a uniform intake volume. The branching pipes of the present invention result in an improved output performance for the internal combustion engine; provide for smooth branching paths; reduce intake resistance; allow the intake manifold to be made compact and light; reduce fuel consumption; improve power performance; allow the internal combustion engine to be made compact; allow easier mounting in automobiles; and allow automobiles to be lighter.
