Abstract: A method of increasing the self-renewal and/or expansion of hematopoietic stem and/or progenitor cells (HSPCs) is described. Inhibiting the activity and/or expression of cytochrome P450 1B1 (CYP1B1) and/or increasing the expression or activity of Musashi-2 (MSI2) increases the expansion of HSPCs. The HSPCs may be cultured in the presence of a CYP1B1 inhibitor and/or a MSI2 activator. Optionally, the cells may be expanded ex vivo and transplanted into a subject in need thereof.

Abstract: A plate-fin heat exchanger has a gas coolant flow path whose length is at least twice its thickness, with thickness measured substantially transverse to the gas coolant flow path and substantially transverse to the liquid coolant flow path. The heat exchanger is well suited (although not limited) to use in cooling units for information technology equipment, and can provide substantial cooling while fitting within an enclosure having the same external form factors as standardized rack-mountable ITE configured to fit into standard IT racks. Thus, a cooling unit incorporating the heat exchanger can be installed just as a rack-mountable server is installed. The heat exchanger can fit within an enclosure whose height, measured substantially parallel to the thickness of the heat exchanger and hence substantially transverse to the gas coolant flow path and substantially transverse to the liquid coolant flow path, is a positive integral multiple of RU (1.75 inches).

Abstract: Systems, methods and devices relating to measuring free chlorine in liquid samples. An enhanced graphite electrode and sensors comprising the same are provided. The enhanced graphite electrode in conjunction with a reference electrode and a counter electrode can be used in a chronoamperometry mode to detect concentrations of free chlorine in liquid samples, especially static liquid samples. The enhanced graphite electrode can also be used in conjunction with a counter/reference electrode in a pulsed amperometric detection mode to detect concentrations of free chlorine in liquid samples, especially static liquid samples.

Abstract: The present application relates to biosensors, for example comprising an high-molecular weight, tandem repeating, structure-switching nucleic acid aptamers (concatemeric aptamers) to rapidly create patterned sensors via, for example, inkjet printing. These concatemeric aptamer reporters remain immobilized at the point of printing through strong adsorption but retain sufficient segmental mobility to undergo structure switching and reporter signalling to provide both qualitative and quantitative detection of one or more analytes. In certain embodiments, inkjet printing allows for the patterning of internally referenced sensors with multiplexed detection, and provides a generic platform for on-demand printing of sensors even in remote locations.

Abstract: Methods of determining the risk of an adverse cardiovascular event or death in a mammal are provided which include determining in a biological sample obtained from the mammal the level of a combination of biomarkers selected from a glucose metabolism biomarker, a heart function biomarker, a renal function biomarker and at least one biomarker of cardiac injury. A score is allotted based on the level of each biomarker, and the cumulative score is indicative of the risk of an adverse cardiovascular event.

Abstract: Various embodiments illustrating a multiplexed method for high throughput screening of ions in biological samples within a single capillary when using capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry (CE-MS) are illustrated. The method includes sequential injection of multiple sample segments in series within a single capillary, the sample segments being separated by a spacer plug of buffer, and multiplexed analysis of the sample segments simultaneously within a single capillary electrophoresis (CE) run. The method also includes application of voltage to the single capillary subsequent to sequential injection and zonal separation of polar metabolites within each sample segment by CE such that each analyte zone migrates within its characteristic electrophoretic mobility offset in time by the spacer. The incorporation of a quality control/reference sample and the use of dilution patterning with specific injection configurations also enables encoding of information temporally for enhanced data processing with quality assurance.
