Abstract: A system for preparation of an implant and ab interno insertion of the implant into an eye including a handle having one or more actuators and an elongated shaft having an outer sheath and an elongate member positioned within a lumen of the tubular outer sheath. The system includes a recess sized for holding a patch of material fixed relative to the handle and a cutting member movable relative to the handle and to the recess. The cutting member cuts the patch of material into an implant as the cutting member moves towards a cutting configuration. The implant, once cut, is axially aligned with the lumen of the tubular outer sheath. The inner elongate member is movable relative to the tubular outer sheath to advance the implant into a deployment position in the lumen of the tubular outer sheath for delivery into the eye. Related devices and methods are provided.

Abstract: A tissue-augmented corneal inlay surgery technique is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the surgery method includes the steps of: (i) implanting a corneal inlay into a recipient cornea of an eye of a patient; (ii) applying laser energy to a central portion of the corneal inlay and a portion of stromal tissue of the recipient cornea underneath the corneal inlay so as to modify the refractive power of the eye; (iii) applying a cross-linking solution that includes a photosensitizer to the recipient cornea of the eye of the patient; and (iv) irradiating the corneal inlay and surrounding corneal tissue so as to activate cross-linkers in the corneal inlay and the surrounding corneal tissue. In this embodiment, the central portion of the corneal inlay remains clear for the patient without being obstructed by swollen tissue so that the patient is able to see immediately after the corneal inlay surgery.

Abstract: A composite collagen hydrogel material for use in tissue engineering, and an implantable ophthalmic device comprising such composite material. The composite material comprises: a first collagen network comprising collagen crosslinked with a first crosslinking agent, and/or a second collagen network comprising collagen crosslinked with a second crosslinking agent, and a three dimensional collagen mesh comprising partially and plastically compressed collagen hydrogel with a compression degree of 50-95%, wherein the three dimensional collagen mesh is embedded in the first collagen network and/or second collagen network, and the first collagen network and/or the second collagen network and the three dimensional collagen mesh are physically and chemically interconnected in the composite collagen hydrogel material.

Abstract: The claimed method for performing ophthalmosurgical operations includes forming a recipient bed and implanting an autograft consisting of a portion of the patient's own nail plate, which is shaped to fit the recipient bed, and which is sterilized and then kept in a dry environment prior to implantation. The autograft is similar in chemical composition and physical characteristics to the tissues of the eye, is not accompanied by an immune system rejection reaction, and adapts to the shape of the recipient bed as a result of natural swelling.
