The present invention also provides a method for producing a cell sheet for cartilage repair, formed from a culture of cells derived from a cartilage tissue, and the method includes culturing cells derived from a cartilage tissue on a surface of a membrane, where a temperature-responsive polymer is immobilized on the surface, to give the cell sheet. The culturing is stopped before the cell sheet becomes positive for immunostaining using an antibody against type II collagen.

An improved process for producing a regenerated corneal endothelial cell sheet, comprising the steps of allowing corneal endothelial cells collected from a tissue to be cultivated on a cell culture support having its surface covered with a polymer of which the hydrating force varies in a temperature range of 0-80° C., and after the culture,(1) adjusting the temperature of the culture solution to the temperature at which the polymer on the substrate surface is hydrated,(2) bringing the cultured corneal endothelial cell sheet into close contact with a carrier, and(3) detaching the sheet together with the carrier.The regenerated corneal endothelial cell sheet obtained by the process will adhere very well to living tissues.

A substrate having a pattern of two or more materials exhibiting different grafting efficiencies for a temperature-responsive polymer that varies its interaction with water in a temperature range of 0 to 80° C. by electron beam irradiation under the same conditions is grafted with the temperature-responsive polymer by simultaneously irradiating the surfaces of the materials with electron beams to obtain a temperature-responsive cell culture substrate. According to this method, a temperature-responsive cell culture substrate having a surface (1) that allows cells to adhere thereto and to grow thereon during cell culturing and that allows the adhering and grown cells to be detached therefrom by changing the culturing temperature and a surface (2) that does not allow the cells to adhere thereto at all can be obtained by a simple process.

This cultured periodontal membrane cell sheet has a syndesmotic microstructure, exhibiting extremely high bioadherence to the surface of dental root, and realizes high-density transplant of target cells and positive reconstruction of periodontal tissue. Moreover, through laminating of cell sheets to be transplanted and donating of three-dimensional polarity, highly efficient reconstruction of attachment apparatus can be accomplished, and clinical application thereof to moderate periodontitis, severe periodontitis, gingival recession, etc. is highly promising.

A cell sheet transplantation device having a plane for transplanting a sheet of cultured cells, the device comprising, in the plane in the same direction, (1) a planar surface portion for capturing a cell sheet while maintaining a sheet-shaped form, and (2) suction holes for immobilizing a transplantation site by suction, the suction holes being positioned around the planar surface portion. By using the cell sheet transplantation device, a cultured cell sheet can be detached effectively, and the detached cultured cell sheet can be transplanted in an effective and simple manner.
