Abstract: Method and computing devices for enforcing packet order based on packet marking. Upon occurrence of a link failure, a first device reallocates traffic initially forwarded through the failed link to an alternative link and marks the reallocated traffic with a first flag. Upon recovery of the failed link, the reallocated traffic is forwarded again through the recovered link and marked with a second flag different from the first flag. A second device calculates a reference inter-packet time for received traffic marked with the first flag. For received traffic marked with the second flag, the second device calculates a current inter-packet time. The current inter-packet time is compared with the reference inter-packet time, to determine if the traffic marked with the second flag shall be forwarded immediately or if the forwarding shall be delayed.

Abstract: A software defined networking (SDN) controller or routers in a network determine unicast paths from an ingress router to egress routers from the network based on quality-of-service (QoS) metrics for links between routers of the network. A subset of the unicast paths is associated with a multicast flow based on one or more QoS criteria for the multicast flow. A router pushes a label stack onto a packet of the multicast flow. The label stack includes labels that identify the subset of the unicast paths. The packet including the label stack is multicast through the network to the egress routers. Routers that receive the multicast packet selectively modify the label stack in the packet based on the labels that identify the subset of the unicast paths. The routers selectively forward the packet based on the labels.

Abstract: An optimizing agent of a network device that does not support low latency DOCSIS can identify traffic or packets associated with a client resource for an optimization service flow. For example, the optimizing agent can receive a priority notification associated with a client resource from a low latency controller that is indicative of a low latency requirement associated with the client resource. The optimizing agent identifies the traffic for the optimized service flow based on the priority notification. The identifying can require modifying one or more parameters of an existing service flow, creating a new service flow, or selecting an existing service flow with low latency. The identified traffic can be routed to the optimized service flow to achieve low latency or high QoS.

Abstract: A method of controlling a packet stream generated by an application installed in a mobile terminal, the stream being intended to be sent by the terminal over a communications network managed by an operator. The method includes the following acts implemented in the terminal, for at least one packet generated by the application: obtaining a first packet having a first header and payload data; transmitting a request message to a security module installed in the terminal, the message including a parameter of the first header; receiving a response from the security module, which includes an instruction relating to transmission of a second packet, the response being based on the parameter and established according to a processing rule; preparing the second packet by modifying the first header into a second header, based on the instruction, the second packet including the second header and the payload data; and transmitting the second packet.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a network forwarding element that can be dynamically reconfigured to adjust its data message processing to stay within a desired operating temperature or power consumption range. In some embodiments, the network forwarding element includes (1) a data-plane forwarding circuit (“data plane”) to process data tuples associated with data messages received by the IC, and (2) a control-plane circuit (“control plane”) for configuring the data plane forwarding circuit. The data plane includes several data processing stages to process the data tuples. The data plane also includes an idle-signal injecting circuit that receives from the control plane configuration data that the control plane generates based on the IC's temperature. Based on the received configuration data, the idle-signal injecting circuit generates idle control signals for the data processing stages. Each stage that receives an idle control signal enters an idle state during which the majority of the components of that stage do not perform any operations, which reduces the power consumed and temperature generated by that stage during its idle state.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, by a first node of a node cluster in a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN), traffic from a wide area network (WAN), assigning, by the first node of the node cluster, flow ownership of the traffic to the first node, and communicating, by the first node of the node cluster, the traffic to a local area network (LAN). The method also includes receiving, by the first node of the node cluster, return traffic from a second node of the node cluster and detecting, by the first node of the node cluster, a diversion of the return traffic. The method further includes relinquishing, by the first node of the node cluster, the flow ownership and assigning, by the first node of the node cluster, the flow ownership to the second node of the node cluster.
