Abstract:
A surgical stapling system including a shaft assembly transmits actuation motions from an actuator and an end effector compresses and staples tissue. The end effector comprises an elongated channel; an anvil having a staple forming surface is moveable relative to the elongated channel between an open position and a closed position; and a staple cartridge removably positioned within the elongated channel. The staple cartridge comprises a body having a tissue contacting surface in a confronting relationship with the staple forming surface; a plurality of staple drivers within the cartridge body each supporting a staple; and a tissue thickness compensator positionable between the anvil and the cartridge, the tissue thickness compensator is captured by the staples and assumes different compressed heights within the different staples. The tissue compensator comprises first conductive elements. The system determines properties of tissue compressed between the anvil and the cartridge.
Abstract:
A surgical instrument is disclosed. The surgical instrument includes a first jaw and a second jaw, wherein at least one of the first jaw and the second jaw is movable relative to the other one of the first jaw and the second jaw between an open configuration and an approximated configuration. In addition the surgical instrument includes a cutting member movable during a firing stroke to cut tissue captured between the first jaw and the second jaw, the cutting member comprising a cutting surface at a distal portion thereof. In addition, the surgical instrument further includes a sensing module operable to measure a characteristic of the cutting surface.
Abstract:
An end effector is disclosed. The end effector comprises a first jaw member defining an anvil; a second jaw member configured to receive a cartridge therein, wherein the first jaw member is moveable with respect to the second jaw member; a first sensor coupled to the anvil; and a second sensor configured to measure a second parameter. The first sensor is configured to measure a first parameter. The first parameter and the second parameter are related. The first sensor and the second sensor are in signal communication with a processor.
Abstract:
An implant and suture locking system is provided. The implant can include a lateral or distal anchor, and a medial or proximal anchor. One or more suture loops can extend between and operatively connect the anchors. A medial suture loop can extend through apertures in the medial anchor to provide efficient and easily adjustable tensioning and suture locking for the implant.
Abstract:
A collar for extenders and an extender assembly including a collar is disclosed. The collar is configured to receive extenders and maintain the extenders in a parallel orientation so as to prevent splaying and premature beak-off of the extenders from the spine. Methods of use are disclosed.
Abstract:
For identification of individual electronic cassettes, a different label is attached to each of the electronic cassettes. Selection buttons for selecting one of the electronic cassettes are provided on a console in correspondence with the respective electronic cassettes. A cassette ID is assigned to each of the electronic cassettes, and the console communicates with the selected electronic cassette using the cassette ID assigned to the selected electronic cassette. Data of correspondence between the cassette ID and the label is memorized for each electronic cassette. The same label is displayed on the selection button as the label on the corresponding electronic cassette, allowing confirming whether the electronic cassette actually positioned for imaging coincides with the electronic cassette selected on the console.
Abstract:
Systems, devices and methods to improve safety and efficiency in an operating room comprise providing a suture package that holds new suture needles and needle receptacles for storing used needles. The devices can be safely worn for the surgeon to self-dispense new suture needles in the near surgical field and to secure the used needles into a needle trap or a needle retainer located on his extremity, on his operative instruments or on the surgical drapes. The device may provide automated and/or simplified needle counting both during use and after removal from the surgical field. The device may be configured for ergonomic and efficient use so as to minimize the actions and motions of the surgeon to dispense and secure the needle.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a kit and method for the storage and transportation of medical equipment, in particular endoscopes. A method of storing medical equipment, using a kit comprising a bag made from a flexible plastics material, a first closure device for securing the bag closed and a second closure device for securing the bag closed, comprises: a) placing an item of medical equipment in a first, clean state within the bag; b) securing the bag closed with the first closure device; c) removing the first closure device; d) removing the medical equipment from the bag for use; e) placing said used medical equipment, in a second, dirty state, in the bag; and f) securing the bag closed with the second closure device, such that the bag is sealed to retain moisture within the bag.
Abstract:
Surgical apparatus, including a trocar having a tubular member with a tubular member distal end and a tubular member proximal end. The apparatus further includes a tool having a tool proximal end and a tool distal end. The tool is insertably disposed within the tubular member with the tool distal end projecting beyond the tubular member distal end. The apparatus further includes an indicator indicating the tool distal end while the tool distal end projects beyond the tubular member distal end.
