Abstract:
A junction plate assembly for subsea hydraulic couplings has gear-driven cam followers on the circumference of one, generally circular, junction plate and curved cam tracks on a corresponding junction plate to urge the plates together or apart. The gears can provide significant mechanical advantage in moving the junction plates. Accordingly, larger junction plates with a greater number of hydraulic coupling members may be joined together when using the apparatus of the invention. The mechanical advantage provided by the junction plate mechanism allows the use of smaller, less powerful Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) to make hydraulic connections in the subsea environment.

A digital printing device is manually moved across a medium, and automatically prints an image on the medium by selectively engaging one or more print elements at positions corresponding to the image. Preferably, the printing device comprises a multi-element print head a pair of optical sensors which provide position and orientation data. A controller causes the print head to print the image responsive to the location and orientation determined by the optical sensors. The printing device may be hand-held and integrated into a personal digital assistant device.
Abstract:
A control circuit (1) includes two input terminals (2, 3) for respectively electrically connecting with the active and neutral conductors (4, 5) of a mains power source (6). Two output terminals (7, 8) electrically connect with a load in the form of a two pin domestic electrical appliance (9). Conductors (4, 5) terminate at a domestic power outlet socket, and terminals (7, 8) are incorporated into a two pin plug for insertion into that socket. That is, terminals (7, 8) include elongate bundled conductors for extending between the outlet socket and the circuit. Appliance (9) has a conductive component, in this instance a housing (10) that, under normal operating conditions, is electrically insulated or otherwise electrically isolated from conductors (4, 5). The housing provides a reference point for circuit (1), and is electrically connected to that circuit by way of a conductor (11).
Abstract:
A catalyst of a gallium zeolite on which platinum (Pt/Ga-ZSM-5) has been deposited may be used for aromatization of alkanes having two to six carbon atoms per molecule, such as ethane, propane, butane, etc., to aromatics, such as benzene, toluene and xylenes (BTX). The gallium zeolite contains gallium and silicon in the framework of the zeolite structure. The zeolite structure may be of MFI, FAU, TON, MFL, VPI, MEL, AEL, AFI, MWW or MOR, but preferably, the zeolite has a MFI structure, more preferably is ZSM-5 MFI zeolite. According to the IUPAC recommendations, an example of the sodium form of the zeolite would be represented as: |Nax·(H2O)z|[GaxSiyO2y+3x/2]−MFI where x=0.1-25; y=60-100; and z=0.1-10. Platinum may be deposited on the gallium zeolite by ion exchange or impregnation.

Abstract:
An evaporative emissions filter for an engine air induction system. The evaporative emissions filter includes a hydrocarbon vapor-adsorbent member disposed within the air induction system outside the direct air flow path. A mechanism is provided for mounting the evaporative emissions filter within the air induction system. Hydrocarbon vapors present in the air induction system after engine shut-down are substantially retained in the adsorbent member until air flows through the air induction system after the engine starts.

A foamable igniter composition effective to form a foamed igniter substance for use in an inflator device of an inflatable restraint system and a method for preparing a foamed igniter substance formed from the foamable igniter composition are provided. The foamable igniter composition includes a fluoropolymer binder oxidant, a plasticizer effective to render the fluoropolymer binder oxidant flexible, a metal fuel that is reactive with the fluoropolymer binder oxidant, a blowing agent effective to render the foamable igniter composition porous, and a crosslinking agent effective to structurally stabilize the foamed igniter substance. The foamed igniter substance is formed by heating the foamable igniter composition to a predetermined temperature. The consistency of the foamable igniter composition may be adjusted to allow the composition to be sprayed, extruded or molded as desired.
Abstract:
A dual flow convection oven is described. The oven consists of an inner metal liner spaced away from an insulated housing. Burners are disposed between the liner and the housing so that products of combustion from the burner circulate around the liner heating the same to generate radiant energy within the cooking cavity. A fan is further provided at the back wall disposed between a baffle plate assembly and the back wall of the liner. The baffle plate assembly includes a circular opening coaxially disposed with the fan, and the back wall of the liner has a similar opening for admitting the products of combustion into the fan. Diverter plates are disposed between the baffle plate assembly and the back wall which plates extend only partially around the circumference of the fan. A separate control is provided for the burner assembly to generate either 60,000 or 80,000 BTUs of energy.
Abstract:
A power monitoring and correction to a desired power level of a laser or group of lasers utilizes two photodetectors which are employed to accurately determine the amount of output power from the front end or “customer” end of a laser or a plurality of such lasers. During power detection, which may be accomplished intermittently or continuously, the laser is modulated with a tone of low frequency modulation. One photodetector at the rear of the laser is employed to detect the DC value of the frequency tone, i.e., a value or number representative of the AC peak-to-peak swing, amplitude or modulation depth of the tone. Also, the rear photodetector may be employed to determine the optical modulation index (OMI). In either case, these values may be employed in a closed loop feedback system to adjust or otherwise calibrate the value of the low tone frequency relative to the total desired bias current applied to the laser. A front photodetector is employed to receive a portion of the total output of the laser, or of each laser, and the average output power of the laser, or of each laser, is determined from already knowing the optical modulation index (OMI) via the rear photodetector. Thus, by measuring and/or calibrating the laser OMI with the use of a rear photodetector, the average output power from the front end output can be unambiguously determined from detection of the AC peak-to-peak swing or amplitude of the low frequency tone received via the front photodetector.
