Abstract: A high voltage battery charger converts an AC input into a DC output. A controller is configured to calculate an efficiency of the high voltage battery charger, compare the calculated efficiency to a first threshold value, and signal a fault in response to the calculated efficiency being less than the first efficiency threshold value. Despite the fault, the battery charger keeps charging if the calculated efficiency and/or an average efficiency is not less than a second efficiency threshold value.

Abstract: A communication apparatus in a wireless power transmission system includes an operating mode converter configured to switch an operating mode of the communication apparatus between a transmitting mode and a receiving mode according to a predetermined timing; and a transmitting unit configured to transmit state information of a channel occupied by a source including the communication apparatus using a continuous wave signal while the communication apparatus is operating in the transmitting mode irrespective of whether the communication apparatus is performing communication via the occupied channel. The source including the communication apparatus is configured to transmit wireless power. The occupied channel has been assigned to the source including the communication apparatus from a plurality of channels available in a communication cell for assignment to a plurality of sources each configured to transmit wireless power.

Abstract: An output circuit sends a control pilot signal generated in a voltage generator to an input circuit. A communication unit is connected between an earthed wire and a control pilot wire on the output side of the output circuit via a bandpass filter. A communication unit is connected between the earthed wire and the control pilot wire on the input side of the input circuit via a bandpass filter. A low-pass filter is interposed between the output circuit and the communication unit. A low-pass filter is interposed between the input circuit and the communication unit.

Abstract: A power supply device for a vehicle that is chargeable from an external power supply provided external to the vehicle, including a main battery and a battery pack that is attachable to and detachable from the vehicle. Abstract: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems for charging and discharging an energy storage device connected to an electrical power distribution system. In one exemplary embodiment, a controller monitors electrical characteristics of an electrical power distribution system and provides an output to a bi-directional charger causing the charger to charge or discharge an energy storage device (e.g., a battery in a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)).The controller can help stabilize the electrical power distribution system by increasing the charging rate when there is excess power in the electrical power distribution system (e.g., when the frequency of an AC power grid exceeds an average value), or by discharging power from the energy storage device to stabilize the grid when there is a shortage of power in the electrical power distribution system (e.g., when the frequency of an AC power grid is below an average value).
