Abstract: A sleep monitoring device (100) is disclosed for measuring a biophysical variable (131) of a living-being (150), comprising at least two pressure sensors (101-103) spatially arranged in a predefined planar geometry. The living-being rests on the supporting layer (199) contacted by the sensors that generate sensor signals in response to pressure caused by the living being via the supporting layer. A processing unit (110) determines the position of the living-being on the supporting layer based on differences between the sensor signals; a magnitude attenuation factor is determined based on the position of the living-being and a position of a sensor; the biophysical variable is determined from a sensor signal generated by that sensor, including a magnitude correction based on the magnitude attenuation factor. The effect of the invention is that only few sensors are needed to measure a biophysical variable accurately, irrespective of the living-being's position on the supporting layer.

Abstract: A biomagnetism measuring device includes a magnetic sensor and a support unit. The magnetic sensor includes a tunnel magneto-resistive element including a fixed magnetic layer, a free magnetic layer and an insulating layer. The insulating layer is disposed between the fixed magnetic layer and the free magnetic layer, and has resistance being changed by a tunnel effect depending on an angle difference between a direction of magnetization of the fixed magnetic layer and a direction of magnetization of the free magnetic layer. The support unit supports the magnetic sensor in such a way that the tunnel magneto-resistive element faces a living body. The magnetic sensor outputs an output signal in accordance with a resistance value of the insulating layer, the resistance value being changed by magnetism emitted from the living body.

Abstract: A system for providing a standard electrocardiogram (ECG) signal for a human body using contactless ECG sensors for outputting to exiting medical equipment or for storage or viewing on a remote device. The system comprises a digital processing module (DPM) adapted to connect to an array of contactless ECG sensors provided in a fabric or the like. A selection mechanism is embedded into the DPM which allows the DPM to identify body parts using the ECG signals of the different ECG sensors and select for each body part the best sensor lead. The DPM may then produce the standard ECG signal using the selected ECG signals for the different body parts detected. The system is adapted to continuously re-examine the selection to ensure that the best leads are selected for a given body part following a movement of the body part, thereby, allowing for continuous and un-interrupted ECG monitoring of the patient.

Abstract: Biomaterials, such as hydrogels, can be mechanically secured to electrodes of an implantable device, such as electrodes made of noble metals. The hydrogel can be mechanically secured via anchoring features of the electrode. Anchoring features can include apertures, voids, textures, or other patterns created in or on the electrode. The hydrogel can incorporate into the anchoring features to mechanically hold the hydrogel against the electrode. The anchoring features, by being located in or on the electrode, can further increase the surface area of the electrode that is exposed to the hydrogel, which can facilitate the conduction of electrical signals between the electrode and surrounding biological tissue. The substrate supporting the electrode can include additional anchoring features that further assist in mechanically securing the hydrogel.
