Abstract:
A dialysis system comprising: a sorbent cartridge including a zirconium phosphate layer followed by at least one of a urease layer, a zirconium oxide layer, or a carbon layer; a pump in fluid communication sorbent cartridge; and a control unit in operable communication with the pump, wherein the control unit is programmed to cause the pump to pump a dialysis fluid to flow (i) in a first direction through the sorbent cartridge, wherein the zirconium phosphate layer is contacted by the dialysis fluid before the at least one of the urease layer, zirconium oxide layer or carbon layer and (ii) in a second direction through the sorbent cartridge wherein the at least one of the urease layer, zirconium oxide layer or carbon layer is contacted by the dialysis fluid before the zirconium phosphate layer.
Abstract:
A polysaccharide based aerogel comprising a network of polysaccharide fibers with pores therebetween, wherein the sizes of the pores are in the micrometer range.
Abstract:
A carbon-containing emulsion cleaning and digesting medium comprising: 60% beet pulp shreds with molasses, 25% proprietary blend of bacteria 15% water crystals by weight. A user of this medium sprinkles it in a layer upon an area such as a concrete floor contaminated by a spilled emulsion or substance which contains carbon in its molecular structure, such as oil, and then moistens it until no more water can be absorbed. This medium is left to digest the spill overnight or longer to the elimination of the substance it is intended to absorb. The product itself is nontoxic and remaining product and any byproduct of the digestion of the spill is nontoxic as well.
Abstract:
Flocculant compositions containing a cellulosic compound, a superabsorbant polymer, and a flocculant, are useful for preventing the formation of an aqueous phase during the shipping of fly ash slurries.
Abstract:
Shaped lyocell cellulose articles are provided for binding heavy metal ions and radioactive isotopes thereof. The shaped articles include one or more hexacyanoferrates that are incorporated in a cellulosic matrix and uniformly distributed therein. The shaped articles can be fibers, fibrids, fibrous nonwoven webs, granules, beads, self-supporting films, tubular films, filaments, sponges, foams or bristles. They are useful for water treatment and water decontamination, for metal beneficiation, for treatment of wound with wound dressings, for air and gas filtration and in protective apparel.
Abstract:
A composition for moisture regulation in the form of a gel is disclosed. The composition includes magnesium chloride, and a cellulose selected from hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose and water, in which the ratio between the quantity of magnesium chloride and the cellulose is between 0.1 and 16 by weight. Preparation methods for such composition and methods for regulating the moisture of an environment are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A polypeptide porous body of the present invention is a porous body of a polypeptide derived from spider silk proteins. The polypeptide includes a water-insoluble polypeptide. The polypeptide porous body has an apparent density of 0.1 g/cm3 or less. A method for producing the polypeptide porous body includes: a solution production step in which the polypeptide is dissolved in at least one solvent selected from DMSO, DMF, and these with an inorganic salt, so as to obtain a solution of the polypeptide; a step in which the solution produced in the solution production step is substituted with a water-soluble solvent so as to obtain a polypeptide gel; and a step in which the polypeptide gel is dried. Thereby, the present invention provides a polypeptide porous body having excellent water absorbability and a polypeptide porous body suitable for application to a living body, and a method for producing the same.
Abstract:
Provided is a separating agent comprising a carrier and a ligand fixed on a surface of a carrier by chemical bonding, in which the carrier is a core-shell particle formed of a non-porous core and a porous shell, the shell having a pore diameter of 9 nm or more and formed of a hydrolysate of polyalkoxysiloxane, and the ligand is an optically active polymer, optically inactive polyester, protein, nucleic acid, or optically active organic compound with a molecular weight of 50 to 1000.
Abstract:
A separation material and method for separating and recovering a target gas from a mixed gas including the target gas and a hydrocarbon gas that has the same number of carbon atoms as the target gas, the target gas being a hydrocarbon gas having 2 or 4 carbon atoms and a carbon-carbon double bond. This gas separation material includes: a metal complex containing a 2,3-pyrazinedicarboxylic acid; an ion of at least one type of metal (M); and an organic ligand (B) capable of bidentate coordination to the metal ion represented by general formula (1) or general formula (2), where (M), formula (1) and formula (2) are as defined herein. The metal complex has a composition represented by M2+2A2−2B where M2+ is the ion of the metal (M), A2− is a 2,3-pyrazinedicarboxylate dianion and B is the organic ligand (B) capable of bidentate coordination to the metal ion.
Abstract:
