A silicone resin-containing emulsion composition is based on a silicone resin-containing emulsion obtained by emulsion polymerization of a mixture containing (A) a silanol group-bearing silicone resin and (B) a radical-polymerizable vinyl monomer. The silicone resin (A) contains 30-100 mol % of T units: R.sup.1 --SiZ.sub.3, and specifically 30-80 mol % of T-2 units: R.sup.1 --Si(OH)Z'.sub.2 among other T units wherein R.sup.1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group, Z is a OH group, hydrolyzable group or siloxane residue, and Z' is a siloxane residue, and has a number average molecular weight of at least 500. The composition has a good film forming ability and cures into a flexible film having mar, weather and chemical resistance.

A curable resin composition comprising (A) a hydrolyzate or a partial condensate of an organosilane compound, or both; (B) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of polyamic acids having a hydrolyzable silyl group or carboxylic acid anhydride group, or both, and polyimides having a hydrolyzable silyl group or carboxylic acid anhydride group, or both; and (C) a chelate compound or an alkoxide compound with a metal selected from the group consisting of zirconium, titanium, and aluminum, or both the chelate compound and the alkoxide compound. The resin composition can be cured and fabricated without producing no cracks into a cured product such as a semiconductor device having a low dielectric constant, high heat resistance and moisture resistance, superior adhesion to various substrate materials, superb electrical insulation properties, and low moisture absorption. Semiconductor devices using this curable resin composition as an insulating film exhibit a low electricity consumption, work at a high speed, and have excellent reliability.

Describes a composition for producing durable coatings and a process for preparing a single-layer broad band antireflective coating on solid substrates, such as glass, ceramics, metals, and organic polymeric materials. The coating composition comprises, in combination, acid catalyzed hydrolysis and condensation products of water-silane monomer mixture and a film forming amount of a polymer having functional groups selected from amino, hydroxy and carboxy, hydroxy and amino, amino and carboxy, and amino, hydroxy and carboxy. The described process comprises applying the aforesaid coating composition (or an acid catalyzed sol-gel coating composition) substantially free of preformed oxide sol and water soluble metal salt to the surface of a solid substrate, curing the applied coating, and treating the cured coating with an aqueous electrolyte solution for a time sufficient to produce a coating having graded porosity which is antireflective over a broad band of the visible spectrum.
