Abstract: A laser processing apparatus for processing a workpiece by applying laser beam to the workpiece, including: a laser oscillator capable of emitting laser beam; a beam rotator that converts the laser beam emitted from the laser oscillator into a circular beam having a predetermined diameter; a beam shaper on which the circular beam emitted from the beam rotator is incident and from which a polygonal beam is emitted; and a focusing optical system that focuses the polygonal beam emitted from the beam shaper on the workpiece, wherein the beam shaper is a DOE-type beam shaper, and the outer peripheral diameter of the circular beam incident on the DOE-type beam shaper is larger than a standard incident beam diameter preset for the DOE-type beam shaper.

Abstract: A phase difference observation apparatus includes a light source; an illumination guide to guide illumination light from the light source to an observation target object in a cell culture vessel; an optical imager to form an optical image of the observation target object on an image sensor; and a controller. The illumination guide includes a spatial modulator to change an intensity distribution of the illumination light; the controller contains intensity distribution correction information associating a position of the imaging guide with respect to the cell culture vessel with an intensity distribution of illumination light at the position of the optical imager; the controller acquires imaging system position information, which is the position of the optical imager; and the controller changes an intensity distribution of illumination light in the spatial modulator on the basis of the imaging system position information and the intensity distribution correction information.

Abstract: It is a main object of the present invention to provide a process for producing a neuron-like cell from a somatic cell, a neuron-like cell obtained thereby, and a composition comprising a combination of chemical substances that can be used for said process without performing artificial gene transfer.
The invention can include, for example, a process for producing neuron-like cells, characterized by comprising a step of culturing somatic cells in the presence of two kinds of inhibitors, i.e., a TGF-β inhibitor and a BMP inhibitor, as well as any three or more selected from the group consisting of four kinds, i.e., a cAMP inducer, a GSK3 inhibitor, an Erk-inhibitor, and a p53-inhibitor, wherein the TGF-β inhibitor is a selective ALK5 inhibitor, and a neuron-like cell obtained by said process.
The neuron-like cells obtained according to the present invention are useful in regenerative medicine and the like.-

Abstract: A cell treatment apparatus capable of treating cells in a cell culture vessel. The cell treatment apparatus (100) according to the present invention includes a first region (1), a second region (3), and a third region (5). The first region (1) and the second region (3) are placed in succession. The first region (1) is a cell treatment chamber for treating cells. The cell treatment chamber can be closed from the outside of the cell treatment chamber and includes a culture vessel placement portion for placing a cell culture vessel. The second region (3) includes a laser irradiation device capable of irradiating the cell culture vessel placed in the culture vessel placement portion with a laser. The third region (5) includes a control device that controls at least one device in the cell treatment apparatus (100) and a power supply device (52) that supplies electric power to at least one device in the cell treatment apparatus (100). The culture vessel placement portion is placed to be adjacent to the second region (3) in the cell treatment chamber. An adjacent portion to the second region (3) in the culture vessel placement portion is translucent.
